While waiting for the Cambrian Online Index to be available for us in Australia again so I can perhaps glean some more about their lives, I thought I'd post my latest discoveries due to some wonderful help on my LEYSON line. Thomas LEYSON was born in Neath about 1762. His parents were Thomas LEYSON and Margaret BUTTERAL. He married twice. Firstly to Agnes MORGAN in 1783 (died 1799) and secondly to Margaret COOK (Nee THURSTON) in 1804. He was appointed one of his Majesty's Deputy Lieutenants for the county of Glamorgan, JP, Portreeve and Comptroller of Customs at Neath Agnes MORGAN's parents were Richard MORGAN and Barbara GRIFFITHS. They married in Llantwit by Neath in 1762. Richard died in 1787 and is buried in St Thomas' Neath. He was a recorded as Gent in 1762 but it appears he may have been the Gardener at the MACKWORTH's estate - a more prestigious occupation than it is today. They had 13 children, at least 3 died young but among the survivors is Bridget MORGAN about whom I have posted before regarding my BEAVAN family who lived at 35 Queen St Neath in 1851. His wife, Barbara, leased Glyncastle farm (Clun-y-Castell) in Resolven from 1796-1822 when she passed away. However, she subletted it and was living at Roath when she died. One of their sons, also Richard was a coal merchant in Swansea. He had at least one son, John and a daughter, Agnes Griffiths MORGAN also mentioned previously in my post about BEAVAN. In 1841 Richard jnr and his wife Anna and family were living in Somerset Place Swansea. I have Barbara MORGAN's Will (dated 1819 proved 1823) and she left £475 to her son Richard of Mile End near the town of Swansea and everything else to her daughter Bridget Morgan except for a silver tankard to her grandson Richard MORGAN son of her son Richard and a silver cream jug to her granddaughter Barbara Chester? THOMAS? Is anyone else researching these families? regards Lyn in Oz.
