    3. Hello, I use Internet Explorer and the links from the Wales Collection don't work for me either. However, if you search for individual sets of Welsh records in the "A-Z of record sets" e.g. Glamorgan Banns, the links do work. Pamela -----Original Message----- From: Roy Davies via Sent: Thursday, March 05, 2015 2:27 PM To: glamorgan@rootsweb.com Subject: [GLA] New problem with Find My Past? Hello, I have been trying to access Welsh parish records from the web page at Find My Past that lists all the special collections. Special Collections http://www.findmypast.co.uk/articles/world-records/search-all-uk-records/special-collections Some of the links on that page work when I click on them and others don't. Among the ones that I cannot get access to are all the links that I have tried in the Wales Collection. Whenever I click on one of the Welsh links I get a message saying Safari (my web browser since I use an Apple Mac) cannot open the page because it can't find the server "search.findmypast". In case it is a problem with Safari I tried using Google Chrome instead. The only difference that made is that I got a longer, more detailed error message which I don't understand. The server at *search.findmypast.* can't be found, because the DNS lookup failed. DNS is the network service that translates a website's name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Google Chrome from accessing the network. As I also have Windows installed on my Mac running under some software that allows other operating systems to be installed, I tried using Internet Explorer and got an error message saying "this page can't be displayed. Make sure the web address http://www.findmypast.co.uk is correct." Is anyone else have problems with the Wales Collection? 3. Pat Allen Hi Gwen, myself and others were discussing this yesterday and the solution is in hand. It is easy to fix yourself, however, until the technical stuff is done. When you click on an item in the collection list, and you get the page not found display, go to the address bar at the top and after "findmypast." insert co.uk and you will get what you want. It is a pain, I know but we were assured yesterday that it would be fixed soon This is the reply I just got on FMP facebook page. Using <www.old-maps.co.uk> I checked the same area on a 1:2,500-scale Ordnance Survey map published in 1920 and spotted a few chapels, and one Sunday School, all within the immediate vicinity: Only one chapel was named on this map: Capel-y-Babell (Calvinistic Methodist) The only Pisgah Chapel I can find in this part of South Wales is a former Welsh Baptist chapel on Pisgah Road, Gardiffaith, but that is in a different valley, 30 km to the north. 3. Jane and All, There are several people of various generations that were named David Arnold. One bornin 1834 was a younger son of David and Jennet whose name was Joseph David Arnold. He emigrated to the U.S. and lived in Pennsylvania. I've also found another son of David/Jennet who was named after the father. He was born in 1855 from what I've found. My second great grand uncle, Richard Arnold (another son of David/Jennet who remained back in Wales) had a son named David Arnold born on 08 Dec 1854 in Merthyr Tydfil. He married a Catherine David in 1881 in Wales. At some point this uncle emigrated to New South Wales, Australia where he died in 1940. We knew so little of David and Jennet and their life back in Aberdare, which is why we were hoping to try and trace his line back in Wales. Thanks for all of your help! Rather than go through it all again, I've explained my error to Colete and below give a run down of what was or was not found. David Arnold married Jennet Jenkin on 21st November 1818 at St. John, Aberdare. There is a note of (PB) alongside and I've explained to Colete that this means they were married by banns but that there is also personal detail available from the actual record. I suggested she ask the list is SKS would look up the record if visiting the records office. 3. It is likely that images of most pages of pre-20th century marriage registers for parish churches in Glamorgan will be at Findmypast.co.uk, though some have been incorrectly indexed by being attributed to the wrong churches. The majority of details are also on Familysearch. Many local libraries and archives may have subscriptions to Findmypast.
