Hi listers , I'm looking for the burial of my husbands grandmother Ada Jones who I think died in 1978 , she was born in 1902 . We think she is buried in Penrhys in the Rhondda possibly with her parents richard and jennet Thomas who died in 1904 and 1910 . I'm pretty sure I had the record years ago but unfortunately lots of my family history has been deleted by the children . Hello, thanks to all who responded. Irene
Hello, if you look up the 1861 census for Wales, this could be the John Williams living with John Williams, Jennet Evans Williams, and my g grandmother Mary Ann Williams. Also a Catherine Williams and Thomas Williams may also be in the household. Please advise. Linda Whenever you need to find the location of particular archives in Wales, a good place to start is a search on http://www.archiveswales.org.uk/ You will find that Bridgend Circuit Wesleyan Methodist Records are held at Glamorgan Archives, Leckwith, Cardiff Glamorgan Archives Bridgend Wesleyan Methodist Circuit records Reference code(s): GB 0214 DWESBR Once you get the big list of what is held, use CTRL-F on your browser to look for 'baptism' There are baptism registers labelled as being for Aberkenfig and Tondu churches, but they may include baptisms at other locations in the circuit. It seems to have been the Wesleyan practice in the 19th century to have one baptism register which was used for baptisms at many or all the churches/chapels in the Circuit. This is not always appreciated by all archivists or transcribers. Glamorgan FHS has published a booklet of Bridgend Wesleyan Circuit Records under code B-CH Baptisms 1844-1925 Burials 1905-1920 The dates seem to match those listed at Archives Network Wales as relating to Tondu, and those listed on FreeReg for both Bridgend and Tondu. You can find a little more about FreeReg entries by looking at Counties and Parishes Coverage. This also gives you the name of the transcriber, though not contact details. Bridgend Methodist/URC united area had an excellent web site a few years ago at http://www.bridgendunitedarea.org.uk/ but that seems to have disappeared or be on a very slow web server, and only the Porthcawl Trinity Church website seems to be around. My suggestion is that you email or phone Glamorgan Archives http://www.glamarchives.gov.uk/ . Maybe someone on this list who is going to Glamorgan Archives some time soon may be able to investigate for you. Hello, I found an entry for the baptism of Charles Henry WHITING in May 1874 at www.freereg.org.uk but haven't been able to learn where I can order a copy of the actual record. The FreeReg website doesn't appear to include contact information for asking that sort of question, and the Archives Network Wales, which holds some Bridgend Wesleyan Circuit material, doesn't seem to have the baptismal registers. If it's any help, the FreeReg details screen includes this information: County: Glamorganshire Place: Bridgend Church: Bridgend Wesleyan Circuit File Number: 30622. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Linda Johnson
Greetings So far we have not been able to pin down Pisgah Congregational Sunday School in Cwmfelinbach. However, there is a Pisgah Sunday School in Talywain, the next valley east from Cwmfelinbach. The school is now for sale for conversion into flats. A lady I spoke to said she was concerned about the graves of children at the rear of the building which is on Pisbah Road and next door to the Baptist chapel. There are dozens of memorial stones incorporated into the walls. I have sent photos to Irene off list. I hope this helps. According to my great aunt's bible, she attended Church there probably between 1920 (possibly a little earlier) and 1926. She left Wales in 1926 to come to Australia. I subscribe to this list and not the Monmouthshire one so hopefully someone will be able to suggest somewhere. Thanks, Irene Victoria, Australia
Many thanks to everyone who made suggestions. They are all useful and I am able to find what I want now. However, I do wish that Find My Past would stop making changes that make it harder to find what you want! Thanks again, Roy
