I suspect that it is a quotation from Psalm 103 verse 16. " then the wind blows on it, and it is gone— no one sees it again." The wording is not identical to the 1588 Welsh Bible on National Library of Wales web site, but it is close. Thought I'd try one last time to find the parents of the subject. Per the 1881 census he was born in Merthyr. He married Caroline Jones in Llanwonno on 10 Feb 1873. According to the marriage license his father was William Jones, Laborer. I tried ordering a birth certificate giving the date of birth, but that didn't work out. I've tried searching the 1861 and 1871 census but not having much luck at that. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1882. Per the 1881 census all of his children were born in Ferndale (an interesting coincidence his son William wound up living and dying in Ferndale, Michigan, U.S.) Any help at all would be appreciated. -- My genealogy page http://twothompsongenealogies.com/ Allegheny County Maps page http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~lt0168/maps/

However my Elizabeth was born 1830/1 and baptism or christening at 5 years old is a little late for infant baptizers and a little early for believer baptizers. Certainly one however to keep on the list to consider. I don't ignore DAVIS's from Merthyr Tydfil but have been hoping for something more from the Rhondda valley. Associated tombstones near John E. Davis 1833-1900 CO say Glamorgan. His death certificate says he was born in Wonder Valley, Wales. A sextant at a cemetery, who came from Wales told me there are only seven valleys in Glamorganshire and named them off and when he got to Rhondda, with his accent, I could understand why someone thought John said he came from Wonder valley. So far that clue has not been too helpful. I spent hours searching PA census records trying to find a John E. Davis b.1833 who came in 1841 with a father John E. Davis. I only found a few Johns b.1832-1834 Wales with a father John and narrowed down to this family of John & Ann. This was using microfilm readers, before FamilySearch was digitized. I have not yet found a better match even with the digitization of census records. When I found the ship's list with the same family in 1841 I was excited because that is the immigration year from family lore that our Davis's came to PA from Wales. John & Ann Davis both died in 1872 and were buried in a Congregational Church Cemetery in Schulykill Co., PA. I grew up Congregational in Hawaii in the 1940/50's. Back to that Non-Conformist 1836 baptism record you found. I wonder which church, denomination, it was from? What churches were in Mertyr T. in 1841, besides probably Catholic and Church of Wales (Anglican?)? Well my John E. Davis 1833-1900 was supposedly born in Rhondda Valley. His father, John E. Davis, b.ca.1805 could well have been from there or from Methyr T. They were coal miners in PA. They may have travelled to find work. When were the mines started in the Valley and when were they started in Merthyr T.? Do Coal company records show year of birth or wife's name for any other employees? There are so many John Davis/Davies' that is hard to figure out who is who. My Davis web page is at: http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~jrd/j_davis.htm. I will follow your lead and search for the children of John & Ann Davis to see if that will lead me to more ideas on a location where they lived. Hello Jim I wouldn't discount a baptism just because of the age of those being baptised. If a family moved from one place to another then it would be pot luck if the same branch of chapel would be in the that place, hence whole families being baptised into a chapel. It used to be said that the influence of obtaining work could depend on which chapel a worker belonged to. The period you talk about was a time when employment was scarce, with people travelling over the mountain to Aberdare and Merthyr Regards Gareth -------------------------------------------- On Tue, 21/4/15, Jill Muir via <glamorgan@rootsweb.com> wrote: From: James R.
