Has that Chapel already been torn down? Such a quaint little chapel, too. I hope John Ball has captured it on film. I hate progress! Sent from my iPad Hi Irene >From a professional musician/ Welsh descendant (with fellow musician husband born in England to Welsh parents), I recommend that you try and get hold of Bryn Terfel's CD, "We'll Keep a Welcome". The accompanying booklet includes the words in both Welsh & their English translation, and Bryn's impeccable diction and intonation ensures that the songs are easy to follow. They include Suo Gan, Sosban Fach, Calon Lan, Myfanwy, Cwym Rhondda and Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau. Couldn't recommend it more! hello again many thanks for the help with my search for Welsh songs. cheerio Irene
The first Welsh song my daughter learnt at infant school was 'Mi welais jac y do' (literally 'I saw a jackdaw'). It can be an action song. This seems to be well represented on the internet, youtube etc. e.g. http://www.meucymru.co.uk/music/harps/alawteln/jacydo.htm I suspect this is a genuine Welsh song in origin, whereas a lot of the Welsh nursery songs are obvious translations from English. The curious thing is that the third line seems different to that used locally, so maybe there are different traditions. Once you start looking for it you start to find all sorts of Welsh songs, some clearly modern derivatives. The BFI seem to have put a lot of films from various parts on Britain on the Britain on Film part of their website. http://player.bfi.org.uk/britain-on-film/ The BFI is giving you the chance to step back in time and explore Britain as it was 120 years ago. Britain on Film is a new service featuring home movies, newsreels, adverts and television shows dating from as far back as 1895. Users of the service can search for films by location, meaning they can get an insight into life in their hometown or at a place with special significance for them. Hi, Not sure if anyone can help me. On Genuki, I came across the following relatives under History of the Methodists in West Glamorgan 'people'. I'm assuming this book mentions the following people? My ancestor is William Morgan, Pantygelli who was the minister of Carmel, Maesteg as mentioned in this listing. However, my question is that his parents Philip and Mary are also mentioned, see below, but there is also a mention of a Lewis Morgan, and it says in brackets father of Philip? I looked for a lookup link, but there didn't seem to be one. Does anyone know how I may be able to find out who Lewis Morgan is, listed below, and if there is a connection and also what is mentioned about the whole family? Many thanks Helen Morgan, Phillip - Pantygelli - [Resolven] - 176, 177 - (father of Rev Phillip Morgan) Morgan, Mary - [1763-1829] - Pantygelli - [Resolven] - 176, 177 - (wife of Phillip Morgan) Morgan, Lewis - [Yr Ynys] - 132 - (father of Phillip)
