Peter Gardner was born in about 1859 in Plymouth, Devon, England, and married Elizabeth (last name unknown) in about 1882 in Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan, Wales. Elizabeth had been born in about 1861 in Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales. I have been asked by Sarah Vivian Gardner Hartz’s family (who all live in the USA) to find out about her ancestors. Does anyone know of a good, honest researcher who would help me? Thank you. 3. Dear Listers, I believe the graveyard under threat is that attached to Gilwern Primitive Methodist Chapel, situated at grid reference SO24281429 on the north side of the present course of the A465 Heads of the Valleys Road. Google StreetView provides a recent (2011) image of its forlorn condition, as seen from the A465. See: http://tinyurl.com/nhmzrz4 The South Wales Argus has another photo, showing the eastern end of the former chapel. See: http://tinyurl.com/o2snw6e Coflein, the online database of the Royal Commission on Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales, provides the following description: "Gilwern Methodist Chapel was built in 1838 in the Vernacular style, with a gable entry plan and walls of sandstone rubble. By 2001 this chapel stood disused with the interior gutted and vehicle entrances inserted to the centre of the main gable-end and right-hand walls. (NPRN 11513)" See: http://tinyurl.com/o444q3x Unfortunately, I've never photographed the chapel or its graveyard. Although I've driven past it lots of times over a period of 40 years, I've always assumed it was an old warehouse. I never realised it was once a chapel! I'll try to get to the site in the next week or two and take some shots before it's too late. If successful I'll add them to my online 'Welsh Churches and Chapels Collection' and notify the mailing lists in the usual way. Of course, if any of you visits the site before me, I'd be very grateful to receive copies of your photos as a contribution to my webpages. 3. Many thanks, John, for finding this. Super. You may also like a 12-minute silent film of Ferndale, Rhondda where a Carnival held on 2nd August 1926 in aid of the Distress Fund (to do with the lockout/strike). http://player.bfi.org.uk/film/watch-ferndale-carnival-held-in-aid-of-the-distress-fund-august-2nd-1926-1926/ Jazz bands with kazoos, improvised costumes with contingents as red indians, zulus, guardsmen, pierrots, convicts etc and children in fancy dress. St John Ambulance acting as stewards, and a wonderful collection of caps and hats. Also a more general 1926 film 'Dear Cambria' http://player.bfi.org.uk/film/watch-dear-cambria-1926/ which has some shots of Swansea 1926 eisteddfod, Mumbles and Gower. The commentary stills appears to show a rather condescending attitude which some might say was not untypical of inhabitants of the South-East of England towards Wales even now. 3. My 3Xggmother was Susanna(h) Lloyd born around 1807, she married Edward James on 1830 1 May by banns. (that was from a lookup) and I have no idea of her parents. In 1841 I have Edward and, I have to believe, his brother William living (enumerated) next to each other and a number of households away is a David Lloyd age 65 with 4 children A look up gave me the baptisms from Cadoxton for the James family but figuring if i have the right one LOL isn't easy. But finding Susanna's family is up to guesses only unless someone has this family already. Does findmypast have any images for these birth and marriage registers Eliz Not Today and Not without a Fight (Anon) For all that has been, thanks. For all that will be, yes. (Dag Hammarskjold)

    3. So disappointed. I love old footage and about Wales - WOW! Tried to watch all three. I can access the site but just before it starts to play, I get the same error message, "Content Unavailable. The video is not authorized for your location (US)." 3. The photo of the building seems to match that for Gilwern Primitive Methodist Chapel founded 1838. This was in Llanelly parish, Breconshire. The postcode NP7 0BU shows you the site on www.old-maps.co.uk. Coflein records it as derelict in 2001. http://m.southwalesargus.co.uk/news/13489223.Remains_of_six_children_and_memorial_will_have_to_be_moved_to_make_way_for_dualling_scheme/?ref=fbshr The contractor hopes that relatives of those buried there will come forward before the remains and memorials are removed and reinterred at the nearby Llanelly Cemetery on Church Road. 3. Dear Listers, I've just been watching a superb piece of archive film, shot in June 1964, of a steam-hauled train journey from Swansea Victoria Station to Pontardulais. The film is in colour and lasts about 12 minutes. Those of you who know the Swansea area will recognise lots of familiar sights. The soundtrack is of rather poor quality and the commentary muffled, but the visuals are priceless. The footage was shot by Swansea’s Borough Librarian, Leslie M Rees and his deputy. Mr Rees provides the commentary. The film is accessible on the British Film Institute website at: http://player.bfi.org.uk/film/watch-swansea-victoria-pontardulais-railway-1964-june-1964/ Kind regards, John -------------------- John Ball, Brecon, Mid-Wales, UK E-mail: john@jlb2011.co.uk Personal Homepage: http://www.jlb2011.co.uk Images of Wales: http://www.jlb2011.co.uk/walespic/ Welsh Family History Archive: http://www.jlb2011.co.uk/wales/ Blog: http://johnofbrecon.com Webmaster, Breconshire Local & Family History Society http://www.blfhs.co.uk/ GENUKI Breconshire Maintainer: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/BRE/ Administrator - Powys RootsWeb mailing list

    2.   The remains of 10 people, including six children, buried in a graveyard in South Wales will have to be moved to a nearby cemetery to make way for roadworks. Works to widen the A465 Heads of the Valleys Road between Gilwern in Abergavenny and Brynmawr means the Lion Terrace Chapel will have to be demolished.Construction firm Costain Ltd said it is eager to hear from relatives of the 10 people buried in the church graveyard. The names on the memorials at the Lion Terrace Chapel: Alice Watkins, who died aged two years and three months on October 6, 1864.Benjamin Watkins, who died aged one year and two months on October 14, 1870.Richard Oakley, who died aged four years on January 14, 1859.Ellen Oakley, who died aged 14 on May 10, 1862.Thomas Watkins, who died aged ten months on March 1, 1847.MaryAnn Watkins, who died aged 58, on October 23, 1851.Thomas Watkins, who died aged 59 on October 27, 1875.John Watkins, who died aged 27, on August 16, 1878.John Walbey, who died aged 17, on April 6, 1846.Jane Tizah Williams, who died aged 13, in April 1862.
