    3. While sorting through a deceased relative's belongings, I found an envelope containing a passport-type season ticket for the above gentleman, including a photograph, for the Cardiff Fine Art, Industrial and Maritime Exhibition of 1896. He looks a youngish man and very smart, with bowler hat, and hanky in breast pocket. The season ticket looks to have been made by Freke photographers, 12 Duke Street, Cardiff, with advert on the back. Also in the envelope was a South Wales Echo cutting dated 7th July 1988 featuring the exhibition. He is not a relative of ours as far as I am aware, and I think a friend must have sent it to her, knowing her interest in local and family history. I did a quick search on Free BMD and found a likely birth in Cardiff, Sept. Qtr. 1852, Ref. 11a234, and a couple of possible entries for Pontypridd and Monmouthshire for the name, but the family was in the main English. If anyone can claim him I will gladly pass it on, or at least scan it and send a copy. His eyes are quite piercing! Best regards, Wendy

    3. I am not sure you can make the presumption that the first James died. He might have, but it could be an error if you find the James born 1937 reliably in later records, then you can "kill" off the first one. I hope someone can find the first James in death records. 3. At various dates in 19th century the administrations of various British overseas territories introduced 'bounty' schemes which paid the fares of suitable migrants, which then had to be paid back once they had arrived and found employment. Researching a migrant from Swansea to Tasmania I found significant details in adverts in various Welsh Newspapers at the time. 'Agents' were appointed to recruit and vet applicants in particular geographical areas for travel on particular voyages. Welsh Newspapers Online (free) http://newspapers.library.wales/ or the old newspapers on Findmypast may help. 3. It took me a few minutes to "compose" myself after viewing this sweet but sad but then happy video. So touching. For those of us who care about family history, it is trying to understand the fullness of the past and how it links to the present and then carrying it forward to a future we can't see. I remember standing at the Nebraska gravesides of my great great grandparents from Norway. I never knew them, nor my great grandfather, nor my grandfather. Still I thanked them for all that they had gone through and done to give me the life I now so treasure. They could not have foreseen what their lives would mean to future generations. I loved seeing the songwriters beautiful connection to the song and Gladdie. Can I suggest that you contact them by mail explaining just what you are looking for as they may have other registers which could give you more information. You can take photographs of the documents. My advice would be to make sure you prepare a list for yourself as I found it to be quite an emotional visit and if I get the chance to go back again I would definitely make sure I was better prepared. The National Burial Index indicates he died at Briton Ferry/Llansawel and the Church description was St Mary & St Clement, an Anglican denomination Church. He was buried 13 October, 1915. 1. Is it likely he was buried at St Mary & St Clement or is there no grave sites there ? 2. If he was buried elsewhere, where might that be ? 3. Would there be a Church record available for this occurence ? 4. Does anyone on his list have it ? I am trying to confirm that this is my George Harris and his parents were Edwin and Elizabeth. The court heard the mansion had wall plaques made from children's gravestones dating back to between 1850 and 1875. A number of broken grave headstones were found in the garden and "very similar" wall plaques were found inside the house. The headstones related to three children - David, aged four, Rosie, aged three, and Thomas, aged 11 months. The court heard it means children are now lying in unmarked graves at the disused Soar-y-Graig Non Conformist chapel more than ten miles away. Mr Hagan said planners discovered headstones had been taken from the village of Llechryd, near Rhymney, also owned by Davies in his property portfolio. He said: "One was the grave of David, four, Rose, three and Thomas who was just 11 months old when he died. These headstones were inserted into the walls of Llanwenarth House as decorative stone plaques." Martin Briscoe Fort William martin@mbriscoe.me.uk
