Thanks guys, that was fast! Wonder if there's mention of William and Mary Gale in the 1871 Wales Census. >From a 1871 Penarth directory, William Gale was listed as working as a Butcher, although he was also a photographer. In 1861 William ROGERS was living in Carmarthen but in 1871 he had moved to 34 Strand, Swansea. I know from items in the London Gazette, William had moved by 1864. I'd like to try to ascertain more closely when he did move by using the electoral rolls. As an attorney, he should have qualified for inclusion. Could someone tell me, please, would the electoral rolls be at the record office or elsewhere? -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Greinton and Clutton, SOM Asst OPC for Ashcott and Shapwick, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk http://www.savethegurkhas.co.uk/
Hello Listers, I have offered to help an elderly friend, trace her family history. ( however living in Western Australia with no access to the English-Wales censuses and Parish records I am hoping SKP from the GLAMORGAN rootsweb is willing to help) She has tried to do her research, but failing eyesight has made it difficult for her. If someone is willing to help, could we work back one step at a time? Mary was born in Collie Western Australia in 1934 Her maternal ancesters came from Bridgend Wales Mary's mother Annie May VERNON was born in 1911 Bridgend.Wales. She believes Annie's parents were John VERNON and Mary SAMUEL However ( looking at BMD) there are 3 Mary SAMUEL's in the general area so first question which Mary SAMUEL? One clue!! She has a photograph of an elderly couple, but does not know who they are, written on the back is " To Mary Vernon from your loving brother and sister Harry and Cass" The photograph was taken in Port Talbot. Could "Cass" be short for Catherine? As I see in BMD that a Catherine Ann SAMUEL married Arthur Henry MOULE in 1900 This question solved would be enough for my first request--- I would have further questions next time as we progress. Thank you in anticipation. Rhonda Bartlett
Hi Evelyn I dont know if you have had an answer to this already. I'm not sure now if there is an entrance to the old cemetery from the area of Potters Field road Trecynon If you go into the "new" cemetery walking westwards there is a path going northwards. If memory serves me there is a bridge that connects the new to the old. Have you looked at this on multimap.com or Google Earth. Hope this helps Regards John
Hello, Looking for information on an 1850s Cardiff marriage between William Gale and Mary (?). 1861 Census records returned the following: 1861 8 Bute Terrace, Cardiff St Mary, Glamorgan William Gale, head, 29, Book Binder, London Middlesex Mary, wife, 24, Cardif Glamorganshire John Gilmore, lodger, 25, Lab, Liverpool lancashire Charles Smith, lodger, 25, Seaman, Germany Margaret Harrington, serv, 20, servant, Ireland Would really appreciate any info on marriage date, more info on 'Mary'. Jim
Hi, Does anyone have list of 1851 marriages? I'm looking for the following marriage, somewhere between 1851-1855 and I think maybe Merthyr. David Davies of Pencarreg to Maria ?poss Davies. On 1861 original census, says wife from Lanlassant, and written says Llansaint, Glamorganshire, but I only know of Llantrisant. (llansaint in Carms?) Census was in Merthyr Tydfil, parish Ystradyfodwg. Just wondering if anyone had details of around that time, thanks for looking. Regards Helen

Not the right family. I see John married Mary Samuel in 1907, and they are in Pencoed in 1911. Rhonda, An infant Annie Vernon left the UK in December 1911 on the 'Omrah' , but the father was James, and the mother just Mrs. It was a large family. Hi Listers, I already have 1911 census details for my families who lived in Pontycymmer, Llangeinor near Bridgend, but out of curiosity I thought I would look in the index on https://www.familysearch.org/search/ Searching in 1911 for my 2x great-grandmother, Angel Dore VOKES, brings up her birthplace as Temple Church, Somersetshire. There's just a little error here as Church should be Cloud, but looking at the handwriting on the original document I can see how an indexer would have thought that the word was Church. Temple Cloud must have been difficult to read in the 1901 Llangeinor census, too, as my 2x great-grandmother's birth place is given as Temple Eland in the index for 1901 on familysearch and her surname is indexed as VOKER. I haven't checked with the original 1901 Llangeinor census details, yet, but I have a feeling that the handwriting may be difficult to read. I know that I had a lot of trouble reading the 1891 Llangeinor census some years ago. Josephine -- Josephine Jeremiah The Glamorganshire Canal www.ianandjo.dsl.pipex.com
I have found errors on nearly all of my searches of the 1911 census and sent in corrections. A few as follows. Bonvilston - transcribed as Brompton My grandfather Osmond had been mixed up with his wife's details and was down as a female ..... My gt. grandmother Bond - Badmnton transcribed as Bodminton [she was actually born in Wilts., but that's another story] My gt. grandfather Coles put down Brompton Ralph as his birthplace [where he lived most of his life] but in all other censuses he was born in Stogumber, not far away. Some of the entries I only managed to find by entering the names of other members of the families. WENDY
Even if you don't have full access to the 1911 census, you can now get birth places from https://www.familysearch.org/search/ if you know the place where the people you are researching were living at the time of the 1911 census. For instance putting Charlotte Harries Llangeinor from 1911 to 1911 into the search brings up my 2x great-grandmother's birth place of Bristol. Putting Payne Llangeinor from 1911 to 1911 into the search brings up Temple Cloud, Somersetshire as the birthplace of my great-grandfather, Sidney Payne. My family lived in Pontycymmer, Llangeinor near Bridgend, Glamorgan at the time of the 1911 census. -- Josephine Jeremiah www.ianandjo.dsl.pipex.com
