    1. Re: [GLA] Florinda BEAVAN's will
    2. Hello Lyn I found Florinda Elizabeth BEAVAN's probate, 1500 pounds to Edith Florinda BEAVAN, died Oct 10th 1875. Please let me know if you want it, and is it alright to send it to you as an attachment. Doug -----Original Message----- From: Lyn <genielynau@bigpond.com> To: glamorgan <glamorgan@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wed, Jun 29, 2011 5:44 am Subject: [GLA] 1851 census help BEAVAN I wonder if anyone can locate my BEAVAN family in 1851 census. Henry Williams BEAVAN and his wife Mildred lived mostly in Glamorgan at various abodes - Town Hill House, Townhill and Swansea in the early 1800s with a small stint in Bristol. Mildred died 19 October 1851 in Queen Street, Neath at the age of 72. She was born in Ireland. Henry was born about 1781 place unknown. I have never been able to locate them in the 1851 census. There is a Henry Beavan about the right age but he has the wrong wife and from memory children. Henry and Mildred only had one daughter Florinda born 1805 in Bristol who lived in Gloucestershire and they are not with her in 1851. Is there a census wiz out there who likes a challenge? It would be really great to find them. regards Lyn in Oz. -- To send to the list send to glamorgan@rootsweb.com GLAMORGAN Family History Mailing List archives etc. are at http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/WLS/GLAMORGAN.html - A large amount of information, and a wide variety of useful links, may be found at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/GLA/ - The South/West Wales Lookup Exchange and Gareth's Help Pages http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~walesle/wal/AW.html and http://home.clara.net/tirbach/hicks.html ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to GLAMORGAN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

Also with her is Edith Beaven, 21, born in Northern Ireland. On Ancestry.com for the 1871, Florinda is listed as "BEARAN", born 1807, Bristol. 3. LOL Probably a good answer but reading it I wondered if they or she could have gone on Vacation to Scotland or the Channel Islands or France? The way the British census was taken that would make them missing for sure. 3. Lyn, Bridget Morgan was at 35 Queen St. in 1851, but she was a visitor. The head of household was Eliza Jenetta Davies, a clergyman's widow, born Llanvihangel, Cardiganshire. There were two other visitors, Thomas Henry ENSOR and Agnes Griffiths MORGAN, born in Somerset and Swansea respectively. 2. Edward Llewellyn-Jones
    3. Dear Listers I'm seeking help in clarifying a comment that appeared in the obituary of my 2xgreat grandfather in September 1875 who was known as Edward Daniel of Morriston. It says 'We may particularly mention that Mr. Daniel was successful in winning the coal under Forest estate, Llansamlet, after scores of thousands of pounds had been spent in endeavouring to win the vein by other parties since the year 1807. Combating the opinion, and in spite of the views of several other eminent mining engineers, Mr. Daniel drove a diagonal drift through a very large “fault”, winning the coal at a comparatively small outlay, for which he received a very handsome testimonial from Mr. Calland, the proprietor of the colliery.' It would be useful to know the name of the colliery and the year. I know my 2xgrandfather was agent for Vivian & Sons so this must have been something he did on the side. I've googled unsuccessfully. The Calland papers held in the national Archives in Swansea do not appear to have any details on their mining interests. The only thing that has gone through my mind is that the writer of the obituary confused my 2xgreat grandfather with his father of the same name. He was also a colliery agent who opened and managed a number of pits such as Brombil and sunk the original shaft for the ill-fated Morfa Colliery. My 3xgreat grandfather who was always referred to as Edward Daniel of Taibach retired in 1848. Many thanks Edward

    3. Rev Horatio James Thomas, an evangelical churchman, was the vicar of Pentyrch from 1834 to 1880 and perpetual curate of Llantwit Fardre or over 50 years. Apparently he conducted all his services in Welsh. There was, however, a very strong Nonconformist population in both parishes. Ty'nywaun Row was demolished in 1955 and is in the area where the current shops in Pentyrch are. Image sent to Rosamond off list. 3. Rosamond I agree with Evelyn. Perhaps worth noting that Tongwynlais was originally just within Whitchurch parish, maybe spreading into the toe of Eglwysilan parish which adjoins. Pentyrch parish also adjoins, the parish church isn't that far from Tongwynlais, 4 or 5 km maybe. Not sure where Ty'n y waun might be - in that particular locality anyway These Genuki pages might be useful http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/GLA/Pentyrch/ http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/GLA/Whitchurch/ Gareth Genuki Wales http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/ Help Page http://home.clara.net/tirbach/hicks.html Cwmgors/Waun http://www.tytwp.plus.com/Waun/Waun.html -----Original Message----- From: Evelyn Clarke Sent: Monday, June 27, 2011 5:43 PM To: rosamond.brown@verizon.net ; glamorgan@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [GLA] Assistance with identifying a marriage location I would think she was from Tongwynlais, Eglwysilan ----- Original Message ----- From: <rosamond.brown@verizon.net> To: <glamorgan@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, June 27, 2011 5:02 PM Subject: [GLA] Assistance with identifying a marriage location > Hello list: > > > > I have a marriage certificate from the GRO which is difficult to read. 3. Hi Rosamond, I can't help with the residence at the time of the marriage, but the Vicar's name was Horatio James THOMAS. I found out from looking at the 1861 census, where he is listed as Horatio J THOMAS, a Clergyman, living at The Vicarage, Village, Pentyrch, Glamorganshire with his family. Then on the 1871 census he is down as Haratio Jas THOMAS (spelling of name as seen on census) living at the same address. Then I found his death entry in Sept qtr 1880, listed as Horatio James THOMAS - he died aged 75.
