    3. >From FreeBMD www.freebmd.org.uk Henry LOMAS married in June quarter 1910 in Pontypridd registration district (which included Treorchy) . One of the other names on the page is Margaret Louisa THOMAS . GRO ref is 11a 937 Birth of Henry LOMAS is in December quarter 1873 in Crickhowell registration district, ref 11b 127. Crickhowell district included Llangattock parish, the most southerly parts of which included part of Brynmawr. http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/crickhowell.html gives more detail of boundary changes in the area over time. Margaret Louisa THOMAS may have been the one born in Calne registration district, Wiltshire in June quarter 1882 ref 5a 81 or may have simply been Margaret THOMAS and added Louisa because the liked the name, or may have been a widow when she married. In 1911 census Job Henry was aged 5 months Henry was 38 and Margaret Louisa 30 Using free access and searching you can also find other children in the household with the surname THOMAS Annie May aged 4 and Thomas John aged 2. this rather suggests that Margaret Louisa was recently widowed when she married Henry LOMAS. Two possibles appear from FreeBMD Margaret Louisa JONES who may have married William Harris THOMAS in September quarter 1901 in Cardiff registration district. there was a death of a William Harris THOMAS age 65 in Cardiff registration district in September quarter 1906 . and Margaret Louisa G SELWAY who may have married Frederick William THOMAS in June quarter 1902, again in Cardiff registration district. There is a death of a Frederick William THOMAS age 37 in Bridgend district in March quarter 1907. Neither of these exactly add up. You probably need the birth certificate for Job Henry LOMAS in December quarter 1910 ref 11a 713 in Pontypridd registration district if you really want to understand this family. A note to the registered owner may turn up something casburn(at)one-name.org . Hi Jill, In my previous message, I mentioned Theophilus Casbard and his family who were living in St. Mary Redcliffe, Bristol in 1696. There is a reference in the National Archives to John Casbeard and Theophilus, his son, in St. Mary Redcliffe, Bristol in 1676: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/records.aspx?cat=002-pstmr&cid=-1#-1 A further snippet is that there was a Bristol marriage licence bond on 15th. May 1661 for John Casbeard, gent of Redlcliffe and Anne Hellier, widow of Temple. So both CASBARD and CASBEARD were used for this Bristol family. 3. Hello Listers, I am transcribing a will of James Caseberde who died in my village of Kingston Bagpuize in 1604. I have a 3 generation family tree for them now. I have tried discovering where the surname appears in Berkshire and Oxfordshire. It is not shown in the Surnames of Oxfordshire book and I don't believe that there is a book of Berkshire surnames. The name or variant of this, as Casbeard, does appear on the Oxfordshire OXSIL surname list though and I have sent a message to the researcher. I searched for both Cakebread [which I think Caseberd could be a variant of] and Caseberd on ancestry.co.uk today and then decided to use the facility to 'Search All Records' and found there a James Caseberd died 1604 which is one I am interested in, within Probate/Glamorgan Wills, but he isn't shown on the National Library of Wales Wills Index that I could see. I don't wish to add to my subscription plan at present, but wondered if anyone had come across this surname in Glamorgan, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, or come to that anywhere, please? The adjoining parish of Longworth is the oldest place in the UK for Anabaptists, who seemed to have come from Glamorgan, so the tale goes, and a Cakebread researcher I have spoken to tells me that his family seemed to be Nonconformists. Best wishes, Jill http://longworth-district-history-society.org.uk

    2. Kelvin Edwards
    3. Dear List, I recently came across a poem printed in the Llanelly Mercury in 1892 written by my great great grandfather John Abib Lewis. It's dedicated to, and in praise of, a certain W. Jenkins Esq. Penybeiley, Lougher. Since discovering it I've tried to find out who this W. Jenkins is, but to no avail. The only information I have been able to find is a very brief mention in some legal papers from the 1830's to a Penybeiley Estate in Lougher. Before visiting the West Glam Archives I though I'd ask the list to see if anybody here could help me find out who this gentleman was and what had he achieved to warrant this dedication Diolch yn fawr Kelvin

    3. Hi Robert http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/GLA/CadoxtonJuxtaNeath/Chapels.html has a section on this chapel, including a link to pictures of headstones in the graveyard with a grid reference SN77100144 Put that into http://getamap.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/ and you find the chapel on the left as you head N up a minor road from Cilfrew towards Bryn-Caws farm, at the top of a steep hill after a ford. Put Cilfrew,Neath into Google maps. You see that this minor road is called Main Road,Cilfrew. SA10 8LP is the postcode for the part of Main Road that is in the village. [ There is even a bus stop near the chapel called Cilfrew,Derwen Fawr N-bound. ] The chapel and and graveyard are clear on the Google maps satellite image. If you aren't familiar with the area come off the A465 ( M4 J43 at Llandarcy up towards Glynneath and Merthyr) at the turn for Aberdulais , head a few hundred yards S on the A4230 (1st exit if you are coming from M4) then right up a hill towards Cilfrew by Llangatwg Comprehensive School, and just carry on after the houses finish. It is possible that there is now a bridge rather than a ford. Not sure. 3. Someone local might be able to give you a definitive answer but you can try these. You can find the chapel on COFLEIN (presuming the graveyard is by the chapel) http://www.coflein.gov.uk/en/site/9463/details/TABOR+INDEPENDENT+CHAPEL%2C+B RYN-CAWS%2C+BLAENHONDDAN/ This will give you a National Grid Reference that can be used on the Ordnance Survey's mapping site http://www.getamap.ordnancesurveyleisure.co.uk/ Put in the search box and change to "Leisure" map. COFLEIN does have its own mapping but it is not linked direct from the record - it will probably do eventually because they use the RCAHMS system and they now link to a map showing the location. Doesn't help for this particular graveyard (probably too small) but if there are any war graves in a graveyard then this site will find it and show an aerial view. http://www.infromthecold.org/war_grave_cemeteries.asp?from=search Martin Briscoe Fort William martin@mbriscoe.me.uk -----Original Message----- From: glamorgan-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:glamorgan-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Robert Alun Chick Sent: 09 July 2011 11:34 To: GLAMORGAN@rootsweb.com Subject: [GLA] BLAENHONDDAN: TABOR INDEPENDENT CHAPEL BLAENHONDDAN: TABOR INDEPENDENT CHAPEL How do i find directions to the grave yard ?
