Greetings group, Recent posts concerning Eglwysilan have caught my eye. Last year I found my 2nd great grandfather, GEORGE NEWMAN, aged 64, in this village on the 1891 Census. He is the innkeeper of the Castell Coch Inn, along with his (second) wife, Louiza. (He died at Cardiff two years later. Born in Devon, he is my only ancestor whom I have discovered appearing in all six censuses during his lifetime--1841 through 1891.) I understand that Castell Coch in Welsh is "Red Castle," and that there is a famous landmark of that name nearby. This enumeration is in the civil parish of Eglwysilan. I can't find the exact location in Google Earth or Yahoo Maps. I would be delighted to learn if this pub is still in existence and its exact location. Hoping to hear from fellow-researchers. This is a great list and resource. Thanks, Roland Purnell Ventura, California

Hello Gareth On GENUKI there are a list of registration districts and the changes they have gone through. Which to be quite honest doesn't help when searching the same districts in a Census. Officials use their own districts just to confuse their own staff. Try figuring out where North Glamorgan Health district is! The 1911 Census and those that come after have kept their Schedules, which is why there is a need to marry the both of them up. I've used Ancestry as an example but FMP include the Schedule reference as well. Ancestry has made numerous errors in their transcription of the 1911 Census Gareth --- On Tue, 12/7/11, Gareth <gareth@tytwp.plus.com> wrote: Hi Gareth Ah, I'm afraid I don't use ancestry and have no access to any 1911 schedule data either. In fact I'm not sure I quite understand the problem you've addressed. Looks like a lot of work to have put it all together though, good on you Sorry I can't help. Gareth -----Original Message----- From: Gareth Morgan Hello Gareth I have been having a problem with matching Ancestry's 1911 Schedule pages with their Census pages. Because of this I produced a list of all districts matching up the Schedule reference with the Census reference and put them into a table. By matching the rg78 reference on the Schedule to the rg14 reference on the Census and doubling the page number you arrive at the page you need. I would be grateful if you could suggest any improvements. Gareth

Every time I am away from the computer for a while the list goes off on its travels after the wild geese, or so it seems. Dai is quite right. On a busy list like this we expect anyone who is going away for any time to unsubscribe, and to subscribe again when they come back. You can always read the meanderings of list discussion on the 'Threaded Archive' at http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/WLS/GLAMORGAN.html It was only on 20th June I sent a message to the list about how to unsubscribe. See it at http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/GLAMORGAN/2011-06/1308607439 If you don't know what email address you are subscribed to the list with, right-click an email from the list as it sits in a list of incoming mail, select 'Properties' and then select 'Details' and look at the top line. By the way, today someone seems to have tried to send an image to the list, about a name like Eledyr. It didn't work. You can't send images to the list. You can send it to me off-list if you like, for my view of it. Hi Elwyn I expect you will have already done a search of FreeBMD before asking the list. If so you will have found that the only Jack Henderson showing as born in 1914 was Jack L. HENDERSON born March quarter 1914, mother's maiden name DAVIE in Crickhowell district, 11b 156 Crickhowell included the upper reaches of Brynmawr and Ebbw Vale. The most likely marriage was in March quarter 1913 in Easington district, County Durham Henderson,John J and Davie,Mary A. 10a 700 The source for a birth date of May 24, 1914 seems to be Wikipedia, which in turn gets it from Sports-reference.com It is not unknown for published information about famous people to be wrong. Some famous people even re-invent themselves when creating their biographical details. There is a possible death in 2000 in the Isle of Wight, with no middle initial, and birth date 19 March 1914 All a bit of a puzzle. Yes Charani, There is a 'no mail' function available to the list admin, but this admin certainly doen't expect to set it and reset it every time someone wants to go away for a few weeks. The standard procedure is to unsubscribe and resubscribe. Dai Bevan Admin, Dyfed list. G'day All My 5th great grand father William LEWIS is buried in the Parish Church of St Cynwyd, Llangnwyd. William married (G)Wenllian DAVID (1706-1800) about 1735, William must have been a fit and virile man as would have been 63 when Leyson was born. Their children are: William (1737-1813), Ann (1739-1766) and Leyson my 4th great grandfather (1750-1839), no other children have been located as yet. Leyson married Ann JENKINS in Llangnwyd on 6 February 1785, they had the following children: Margaret (1785-1785), Ann (1787- ), David my 3rd great grand father (1790-1881), John (1798-1820) and Thomas (1801-), again no other children have been located for this union. The majority of the above names are recorded on a MI for Plot WAL 43 at St Cynwyd. I am interested to know if any of the above information rings bells with fellow members and can any one assist in me to make progress by going backwards. John Mandurah Western Australia

Unsubbing is easier because it allows the unsubscribe mail to wait in the inbox as a reminder that she has unsubbed, whereas the "no mail" option could leave her wondering why she isn't getting any mails. Hello John Those who were mentioned on the CD as WAL. The Wal refers to someone called Wallinton who went around transcribing inscriptions way back. Some of his notes are at the Glamorgan Archives. It may be a thought to contact them to see what they have. Gareth
