John Beavan of Hill House did die but he was only in his early 20s which is why I wonder if the Vicar could also be a JP is he their father or one of the other Beavan family in Swansea that I can't tie in to. 3. I hope this is the correct address, as the series of forwarded mails include so many it just becomes too confusing, maybe all the additional addresses could get deleted before forwarding to make life easier?  Anyway if this lady in Canada wishes to get in touch about this family what do we do next?  Do I get her addy (which appears to be the only one not included in the mails I have received)?  Or does she get mine, because quite frankly continuing the correspondence via this web site seems superfluous.  D.T-F

    3. My Thanks to Eliz for looking at deaths in America. I should have mentioned my Robert BURNELL was born/baptised in 1756 in Newton Nottage,The son of Richard BURNELL and his wife Jennett, nee CRADOCK. Thanks to a help-mate on the list,I now have Robert BURNELL's "Will" which he made out in january 1825 just prior to his trip to America. The "Will"was however not "Proved"until 1856 in the Prerogative Court Of Canterbury. I don't know why this delay was for? But it Does confirm most of what I had already Traced amongst my Family History. As it mentions his Daughter Margaret REES and her husband Rees REES,who were my father's-father's-father's-mother's-Parents. I Learnt about this "Will"from the "National Archives Site"in London, on-line. Cheers Graham. From:- Graham WILLIAMS,of Canton,Cardiff. Glamorgan F.H.S;#551.

    1. [GLA] Morgan family in Llanguig (from Llangadog)
    2. Stessy Haberfield
    3. Hi list I am just wondering if there's anyone out there who is researching the family of Morgan Morgan, born 1821 in Llangadog. I am pretty sure that it is his brother, David Morgan (1802) Llangadog who is his brother and my direct ancestor; there are also two other brothers, Joseph (1803) and Thomas (1811) They all seem to end up in Llanguig around the Neath Canal in and around Gelli Fowy Fach/Canol - working either as farmers or bargemen. Margaret Williams (1772, Carmarthan) his visiting her son Joseph Morgan in 1851 - but I've no idea who their father was. Of course, this should be recorded on Morgan Morgan's marriage cert to Hannah Jones in 1844 - if anyone has it (the other bros were married too early for registration). If anyone has any links with this family or detailed marriage info for Llanguig (parents are not listed on the GFHS fiche), I@d love to hear from you - otherwise, I'll have to fork out for a certificate! Many thanks Stephanie

    3. Hi, can anybody help me ? My gg grandfather was William Awbrey found in the 1881 census in Dulais higher recorded as a shoemaker. He was born in Cwmgrwach in 1817.He had a sister Mary born in 1813 and baptised in st Cattwgs in cadoxton. Also a brother John, born out of county in 1820 (Llanfeugan) Their father Joseph had moved out of county to the Tredegar area.(he was a miner) I cannot find Josephs birth anywhere but know he married Anne John in Glyncorrwg in May 1812. There was a Joseph Awbrey born in 1784 in Cadoxton, one of illegitimate twins (the other being David) This Joseph however, died soon after. I believe my "Joseph" to be of the Cadoxton Awbrey's .I wonder if anyone has any suggestions.I presume his birth to be somewhere in the 1780/90's range My many thanks Rob Grey

    1. [GLA] HIGHLEY or HILEY in Glamorgan
    2. James Phillips-Evans
    3. Dear List, I'm interested in any references to the name HIGHLEY or HILEY in Glamorgan. I have been researching the ancestry of David HILEY who was born circa 1800 in Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire. He later moved with his family to Clydach in Breconshire, where his father was a refiner at the ironworks. However, they appear to have lived in Glamorgan in between because his sister Emi [sic - Emma] was baptised at the Wesleyan Methodist chapel in Merthyr Tydfil in 1817. Their parents were William Hiley and Emy [sic - Emma] Daniel who were married in Pembrey (Carms. in 1799). William was a forgeman of Kidwelly. I have found a marriage bond (1748) for William Highley, a forgeman of Aberavon who wished to married Ann Hopkins of Pyle & Kenfig. His name and the occupation suggests a link with the later William of Kidwelly, perhaps his father or grandfather. The Highley/Hiley family is said to be of German origin. They were allegedly brought over to England for their skills in metalworking, first at the Tintern wire works in the mid-17th century, but this is unconfirmed. However, most of the Highleys/Hileys were forgemen and refiners, even including some Highleys I have found in the Forest of Dean in the mid-18th century. Thanks, James

    3. I don't know what made the mention of "Cinderella"on the list amongst other Disney characters,But it reminded me of one of my Flock. I wrote an article in one of the back issues of Glamorgan Family History Society's Journal no;52 of December 1998. It was to do with my DAVIES family history, who were from Oystermouth,or Mumbles in the Gower. I had a problem with fathoming out which of two families that I found in the Parish Registers, and the census returns were mine? Both head's of the households were called John DAVIES, Both of them had a Wife named Jane. Both of them had a son named Charles, and both of these Charles were of the correct age to be my Great,Great,Grandfather's. So which one was which? Then I remembered something that my Auntie Vera had told me all those years ago when I started out tracing my ancestors in 1982. She told me that my Great,Grandmother Margaret DAVIES[the daughter of Charles DAVIES] had a "Wicked Stepmother",and she hated her so much, she was going to run away to her Grannies house in Cardiff. I then found that one of these Charles DAVIES's had married twice. His first wife was Margaret GRIFFITHS,and his second wife was Jane BARRY. Both of these marriages were in Swansea St;Mary's.The first in 1855,the second in 1866. Both of these marriages had the father of Charles entered as John DAVIES a "Blacksmith". So Now I knew which one of these families was mine. As the other John DAVIES Listed in the Parish Registers and census returns had the occupation of a "Mason". Charles DAVIES first wife had died in Childbirth to my Great,Grandmother in Mumbles in 1865. She had 3 other daughters. Then Charles DAVIES,widower married his second wife Jane BARRY in 1866. Jane gave him 9 sons. I later found out who the "Grannie in Cardiff"Was too. She was Ann HOWELL,Formerly GRIFFITHS,Nee MICHAEL[born in Mumbles in 1802] who was aged 89 in the 1891 census living with another daughter of Charles DAVIES, Ellen Elizabeth DAVIES,[1856-1912]then the wife of William COULTHARD,[1854-1917] Ann was late The Licensee of the Pub "The Prince of Wales"at Mumbles in 1875.She took over the running of this pub from her late second husband Thomas HOWELL.[1797-1872] Ann HOWELL was my 3 x great, grandmother. 3. Greetings to all. The reason I asked about Monetary Values,is because my Ancestor Richard BURNELL,[c.1724-1811]sold a piece of land in Newton Nottage to Ann BASSETT for 430 pounds in 1772.[from L.S;HIGGINS book on Newton Nottage] His son,my 4 x great, grandfather Robert BURNELL, was left 200 pounds in his brother's "Will"of 1819.His brother being Cradock BURNELL[1751-1819]born in Newton Nottage, died in Savannah Georgia America. Which is why Robert BURNELL,[born in Newton Nottage in 1756]aged 69,went out to America in 1825 to I Suppose, pick uo his inheritance. Nothing further is heard from Robert, so I expect he succumbed to that long journey perhaps? His ship was the "South Boston",of Boston Mass; which I have some evidence that he actually arrived on that jouney out of Liverpool. There were only 2 passengers.Him and his brother in law Thomas JOHN. Would anyone have any knowledge on Deaths in America for that Early Period? Many Thanks,Graham.
