Hi List I appreciate I am repeating myself but just in case anyone missed the first offer - I signed up as a tester for Billion graves site and I am able to upload pictures from my computer, they dont have to have come from Iphone/smartphone/Android phone just a normal picture (jpg) so if anybody would like me to add a gravestone that they have please email the details (of list) where the picture was taken (including a full postal address if you have one) Many thanks Evelyn
Hello, For those interested in these boats there are 2 original & 2 replicas competing in the Fastnet race this week-end. All hoping to show the strength, & reliability of these boats, if not the speed of modern yachts. They hope to beat the record set in 1925 by the "Jolie Brise". HJ

Hello All, I was searching through various registers for Co Louth, Ireland. I found the following transcription which has confused me a little (this is just me being inquisitive) .....I know marriages were entered in the bap. register post 1907 after a letter of freedom was sought but this is a little different. I thought I'd generate a little discussion and you can give me your thoughts if you wish. Dundalk Co Louth 14-09-1895,Hughes,Kathleen,Quay St Parents Hughes,John and Bellew,Anne, sponsors Thomas, Hughes,,Mary, Watters,, Priest and Husband? H McSherry/Alfred Dummber 24091923 St Patrick's Dundalk /Bapt In Cathedral Cardiff. This shows the baptism date and the marriage from 1923 which I would expect to see in 1923....what I do not get is the reference to a baptism in Cardiff ! Unless of course the child soon moved back to Dundalk and a few years later the baptism was added when 1st communion came up etc. (Bellew, Hughes and Watters are common enough to Co Louth) http://kevsirishresearch.blogspot.com/
Hi there, this is my first post on this board. I have been researching my family tree with the aid of my 92 year old grandfather for the last three years. My GGGgrandfather was called John Lewis, a baller born around 1820. On 16th Nov 1846 he married Ruth Winter at Merthyr Tydfil Parish Church. I am descended from one of his sons, my GGgrandfather James Lewis who moved to Llanelli. I am a bit stuck in a number of areas : 1) John Lewis - death date : can't find a thing. Neither can I for Ruth, his wife. He was an iron baller on the 1861 census, living in Pentrebach. 2) John's father - my GGGGgrandfather was called William born c 1789? He was a gamekeeper (from John's marriage certificate). Can I find records of this sort anywhere? Online I found "The Cambrian" from 1807 mentions a William Lewis, "Gamekeeper to Robert Jenner, Esq. for the several Manors of Wenvoe-castle, Moyle, Wrinstone, Cadoxstone juxta Barry, and Dynaspowis" but I am not sure if this is one and the same. Why would he have moved to Merthyr? Isn't that too far away from Wenvoe? Has anyone come across a record that could help? 3) Ruth's father was James Winter - I have found quite a lot on him, born 1792ish in Aberdulais, iron baller as occupation - has anyone come across more Winters who could be his parents? 4) My grandfather tells me that James, my GGgrandfather who was born around 1852 was the 'black sheep' of the family and something caused him to have to leave Merthyr. He married a girl called Catherine Morris on 6th Dec 1873 at St John's Church in Merthyr. Again, I wondered if any distant relation might have an idea of this! My grandfather never found out, but knew he had relatives near Merthyr still. Apologies for the long post, any ideas of where I should look next would be very much appreciated! Regards Dave Morgan Kent
Hello Dave Regarding the death info on Ruth, this "may" be it.... Ruth LEWIS, age 68, 4th Quarter of 1891, 11-A-471, Merthyr Tydfil. I found her and John in 1861, 71, 81 and 91. In 1891 they are with 2 of their sons, William and Thomas. The only known photograph of Remus shows him standing on the gallows in Montana territory: On the back of the picture Judy obtained during her research is this inscription: 'Remus Reid, horse thief, sent to Montana Territorial Prison 1885, escaped 1887, robbed the Montana Flyer six times. He was caught by Pinkerton detectives, convicted and hanged in 1889.' So Judy recently e-mailed Senator Harry Reid for information about their great-great uncle Believe it or not, Harry Reid's staff sent back the following biographical sketch for her genealogy research: "Remus Reid was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory. His business empire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the Montana railroad. Beginning in 1883, he devoted several years of his life to government service, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the railroad. Hi List I recently volunteered to be a tester for Billiongraves.com for all us people who dont have a smartphone .... if anyone has photos of Gravestones in Glamorgan that they would like included you could email me them off list and I can add them to the site .... just remember to let me have details of what cemetery the pics were taken in and make sure its a clear enough picture for someone to transcribe. (anyone can transcribe even if they dont have a smartphone and able to upload their own pics) Many thanks Evelyn
surely it would be easier to skip image and let someone answer who can translate welsh - well this is what I do unless it is just basic name and when they died when you can translate the date ... I have only recently started transcribing for Billion Graves and I think for all of us doing family research its a wonderful idea - have also discovered that they are running a test for people to upload pictures they have that havent been taken with a smartphone - I for one dont have a phone that you can use to upload them (even tho I think its a grand idea) - its just as well for us all to do our bit, I am pretty sure most of us researching our tree have pics that in time could get uploaded to this site Evelyn ----- Original Message ----- From: "Eliz Hanebury" <elizhgene@gmail.com> To: "DYFED" <dyfed@rootsweb.com>; <powys@rootsweb.com>; "GLAMORGAN@rootsweb" <glamorgan@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, August 08, 2011 11:21 PM Subject: [GLA] Billion Graves >I have said I am transcribing photos at Billion Graves and some are > from Trefriw Public Cemetery and I need some serious Welsh help <G> > > A Hunodd April 22, 1927 > > I can't read the rest of the stone well but it seems to include his > wife as well and if someone would be willing to very quickly translate > <G> I would appreciate it > > > > Eliz > -- > > To send to the list send to glamorgan@rootsweb.com > GLAMORGAN Family History Mailing List archives etc. are at > http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/WLS/GLAMORGAN.html > - > A large amount of information, and a wide variety of useful links, may be > found at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/GLA/ > > - > The South/West Wales Lookup Exchange and Gareth's Help Pages > http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~walesle/wal/AW.html and > http://home.clara.net/tirbach/hicks.html > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > GLAMORGAN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message
