    1. [GLA] St. Theodore's church Llangeinor.
    2. Good afternoon everyone I am searching for the death/burial of my Grandfather Thomas Ellis who was born about 1875 in Wrexham. He and my Grandmother married in 1901 in this Church. I am fairly sure that he died between 1925/35 from consulting the electoral registers when the family were living in Treharris. I have recently managed to locate the grave of his wife, my grandmother, Mary Ann Ellis which is in Beechgrove, Treharris but he is not an 'occupant'. Merthyr bereavement services have confirmed that he does not appear in any other municipal cemetery within their area. I seem to remember that this Church no longer exists and the records are iin Cardiff . I do not know whether there was a graveyard with this Church. I would be most grateful for any information or help. best wishes gwen

    3. Hi Irene Divorce was not really an option in that time period unless they were very wealthy. Many just opted for bigamy or no formal marriage instead. :) Regards Lyn In Oz. > ----- Original Message ----- > From: irene moores > To: [email protected] > Sent: Sunday, June 16, 2013 1:45 PM > Subject: Marriage cert query > > > Hello everyone, > Could sks please tell me if a marriage certificate of 1853 > would say if a > woman was previously divorced ? > cheerio > Irene > > -- > > To send to the list send to [email protected] > GLAMORGAN Family History Mailing List archives etc. are at > http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/WLS/GLAMORGAN.html > - > This site has been prepared to help you use the Glamorgan List > http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~glamorgan/ > - > A large amount of information, and a wide variety of useful > links, may be found at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/GLA/ > > - > The South/West Wales Lookup Exchange and Gareth's Help Pages > http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~walesle/wal/AW.html and > http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ukwales2/hicks.html > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' > without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Jeff thanks for this info its very helpful.  When its all but impossible to physically visit the area the transcriptions are vital so its disappointing when they get them wrong - I know its not an easy task to transcribe etc but its a pity that having been told of the errors they have not amended them. The marriage took place 25th October in 1831. The information is taken from a photo of a Parish record on an Ancestry tree, but the certificate doesn't state the name of the parish or church, the witnesses were William Davies and James Evans. It's likely Ann and John were from Swansea. They possibly had a son John born in 1837, and went to Australia at some stage where John senior died in 1885. His occupation was wheelwright. 3. Hello can anyone help with the location of a marriage certificate for John Howells (born in 1809 in Lancashire according to Ancestry) to Ann Walters. Thanks, Christine (Australia) on behalf of John and Ann's second Great Grandaughter, also in Australia. 1. [GLA] ROBBINS & ROGERS, Pontypridd/Fylde, Lancs.
    2. Graham Price
    3. Hi all I have a little conundrum.... don't we all? I have one Linda Rosella Rogers, born Wrexham district 1902, Denbighshire, Sep Qtr, 11b 265, daughter of Percy Anderson Rogers & Florence Mary Perkins of 44 Rhossdu Rd, Wrexham, and the only Linda Rogers shown in civil registration to have been born between 1900-1904 (except for one Linda Sarah Rogers born Suffolk 1902). Okay, so now I find a marriage (and again the only marriage - and no early deaths prior) of one Linda Rosella Rogers to Luther G (George) Robbins, Pontypridd district Sep Qtr 1922, 11a 1471. At this stage I am being cautious as marriage certificates are expensive. The 1911 census on FMP shows only one Linda Rogers who fits, living Glamorganshire, Pontypridd, sub-district Llanwanno, 207 Penrhiwceiber Road, with head of family Robert Rogers, coal miner hewer 61 & Martha Rogers 62. Linda is not shown to have any relationship with the above-mentioned, but is born 1902 Denbighshire, Brymbo (near Wrexham). This certainly fits, but what she is doing in Glamorganshire is anyone's guess. The deaths of Linda Rosella Robbins (nee Rogers) and Luther George Robbins are found in the Fylde district of Lancashire 1972 and 1970 with correct ages re. birth dates. There are three possible children to this couple (taken from registration) Robert E, Pontypridd 1924; Dilys, Pontypridd 1929 and Gwyneth 1935, Pontypridd. I cannot locate Luther George Robbins on the 1911 census (FMP) but perhaps he is mistranscribed and may well be on Ancestry.com. I have a strong feeling about this Linda Rosella Rogers. Does anyone think I am on the right track? Robert Rogers and his wife Martha were living at Brymbo (nr. Wrexham) in the 1901 census and though it would be stretching the imagination way out of beam, I have a Martha (maiden name also Rogers, so far not found a marriage) born same year as this Martha, who could be great aunt to Linda Rosella. Hmmm, interesting. May be just a coincidence. Any thoughts or help graciously accepted. Cheers Graham Melbourne Oz

    1. [GLA] MICHAEL HAYES RFA, WW1
    2. Hi all, Michael HAYES, Driver, 25758, Royal Field Artillery. These details are written on the back of a photo my grandfather sent back home during WW1. I have no idea who this man is or where he is from, but my grandfather was from Cardiff, so I guess my search should start there. Michael's Medal Card is in the National Archives, , I can't find his war record. All my Roath Roamer men are fairly easy to trace, but unfortunately, this one was not a Church member. Any idea on how to narrow it down a bit would be appreciated. Cheers, RR

    3. Once again a flock of yahoo and btinternet email addresses seem to have been compromised and are sending out spam, some of which is getting past the spam filters at Rootsweb as well as those which ISPs put in place. Be extremely cautious about opening emails that have headings like Hi, hey, salutations, good afternoon, good morning etc. Do not click on links in them. If you have a yahoo or btinternet address and have not changed your password recently, do so now. Jeff list admin

    1. [GLA] World war one letters.
    2. Robert Williams
    3. Some old letters that my late auntie Lena gave me way back in 1981 kick-started my Research in to the past. These two old letters were written by my Grandfather's Auntie Minnie.[1861-1943] She being Minnie WHITE. I think they called her Minnie because she was so small. Anyway the second letter she wrote was dated 27th;of January 1916. In the thick end of W.W.I; It is from "Ivydene",487 Gloucester Road, Horfield,Bristol. [Today,a member of my Mum's family  is still there]   Auntie Minnie writes about this terrible war.The letter's were addressed to my Grandfather George Harry Edward WHITE,[1876-1936] Sh mentions your Cousins are all in the Army.   Some of them she names like:-   "Your Uncle Charlie JENNINGS three sons have joined the Lord Derby Group.   Also mentioned is my Grandfather's Cousin Bert WHITE,who is his Uncle Ted;s son.   She also says" I suppose you heard that your Uncle Willie YEOMAN's only son was killed in action." and adds:- Your late Uncle Walter's son is on H.M.A.S;Australia somewhere in the North Sea. He has come to see us twice and hopes to come again in the near future.   Now the last part I found out a good deal from that little mention of  H.M.A.S;Australia.   This ship was a Heavy Cruiser,of the Australian Navy.   Uncle Walter's son was Leslie WHITE who was a Taxi Driver in Melbourne, and was killed in an accident when he was only in his 30's.   The letter also enabled me to connect to some Second and third Cousin's all living in Melbourne. One of them being a Retired Photographer, who sent me a large folder of old Photograph's of my Family on my Mother's side. These were the WHITE Family of Bristol. These old Photograph's together with much Family History were deposited in Bristol Records Office back in the 1980's by a Mrs Dorothy YOUNG. Her mother collected them over the years. Her mother being Mrs;Clara WALL who lived to 101,and died in Bristol in 1953. Her Husband being the Shoemaker/Poet of Bristol. He was John William Henry WALL,and there's  a Plaque of him on the corner of a Bristol Street. Clara WALL,nee WHITE was my Great,Grandfather's Sister. Willie YEOMAN's above, was a relative of my Great,Grandmother Amy Kate WHITE, nee YEOMAN.[1856-1897] So lots can be learnt from a couple of old letters. These by the way were written in Pencil. Cheers Graham. Graham Williams, Glam;FHS# 551. of Canton,Cardiff.

    3. Thanks to all the offers of help in my quest for information but Dai Bevan, has clearly won the day with such precision, I feel I could now find my way to the area where they once lived. Very many thanks Dai for you kind help off list. Below is part of Dai's message to me. My best wishes, Jill Photographs of Welsh Chapels and Churches http://www.welshchapelsandchurches.org/ Hi Jill, Your previous note asked where Tyla Nant was in C-j-N. Browsing the other way through the 1851 census, 111 is Cefn John and 112 Abernant fach. The latetr has also been discussed previously, see archived message http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/GLAMORGAN/2006-01/1136987603 which also gives you a link to Abernant fach on the old maps web site, and puts it close to modern Lancaster Close, Glynneath. The coordinates given just show Dinas Rock Inn on the Eastern edge, so Tyla Nant would seem to be somewhere between the two. Hope that helps, Dai

    3. Hi Jill, I have the same problem My mother was a Thomas My grandmother was a Jones my greatgrand father was a Thomas who married a Jones My aunt a Jones married a Jones As you say very confusing All from the Rhondda valley cheers Dianne -----Original Message----- From: Jill Muir Sent: Tuesday, June 11, 2013 5:39 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [GLA] Too many JONES OT I have just discovered, if my findings are correct though pretty certain that they are, that not only do I have a John James JONES who married a Mary JONES, they at one time of Merthyr Tydfil, and a John JONES of Cadoxton Juxta Neath. I have just found his brother Jenkin JONES who married another JONES - being Elizabeth JONES both of Cadoxton juxta Neath. Oh bother the Jones! Sorting them out is truly hard as, as usual they named their children the same given names, in true Welsh fashion. It is Jenkin who in 1841 census was living with Elizabeth at Pencriag yr afon, Cadoxton Juxta Neath, and who was at Tyla Nant, Cadoxton Juxta Neath, Neath Higher 1851 census that I enquired about earlier. By 1861 they had upped sticks again and lived at Plas y nant, Cadoxton Juxta Neath. 3. Hi Jill, Your previous note asked where Tyla Nant was in C-j-N. Now you have told us who was there and when, I can help a little. The description of the census district reads: "Neath Upper hamlet in Cadoxton parish. The whole of the hamlet of Neath higher including Lamb & Flag and Maesmeling villages." [Maesmelyn or Maesmelin are the usual spelling] Lamb & Flag is a pub in Glynneath and is marked on the Google map of the village. Jenkin and Elizabeth Jones are at schedule 102. Tyla nant seems to be a single property in the street, Tai yn yr heol. at schedule 96 is the Dinas Rock Inn , and before that Vaughan's Terrace. Dinas Rock Inn has been discussed previously on this list. See http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/GLAMORGAN/2002-01/1010142742 If you put 'Dinas Rock, Glynneath' into Google maps it shows it situated on the High St., between the A4109 and A465. However, the archived note indicates there may have been another of the same name in Pontneddfechan. Dinas Rock itself is a well known feature in the waterfalls district. See http://www.forestry.gov.uk/website/recreation.nsf/LUWebDocsByKey/WalesMerthyrTydfilBreconBeaconsNationalParkForestsWaterfallsDinasRock Browsing the other way through the 1851 census, 111 is Cefn John and 112 Abernant fach.
