    3. If you go to www.FreeBMD.org.uk instead of to the second-hand Ancestry version, you can use the 'spectacles' link on the right of the search results to see the original document that the transcription was made from, and in many cases a better image. The FreeBMD transcription is _1_ not just 1, and the _ indicates that another number is present but unreadable. In fact if you look at the linked image ANC-05/P-Z/1857M1-S-0225.jpg you will see that the page number for Bridget SHEA is 412 I have submitted a correction request via the FreeBMD facility so there is no need for anyone else to do so. The corrected version should be in the FreeBMD database within about 2 to 3 months. I do not know whether Ancestry corrects their version of FreeBMD data when FreeBMD is updated, and how much delay there is. By selecting all marriages in Merthyr Tydfil district in that quarter ( something easy to do on FreeBMD - don't know whether a commercial site like Ancestry would allow it) and using CTRL-F you can find the other entries already transcribed as page 412 are ALLEN,David which I confirm is correctly transcribed DAVIES,Margaret which I confirm is correctly transcribed DWYER,Margaret which I confirm is correctly transcribed WILLIAMS,Thomas which I confirm is correctly transcribed I assume that unless Margaret Davies and Margaret Dwyer were the same person, with an alias, there ought to be another male on this page number. I can't find him immediately. I confirm that there was no GRADY or O'GRADY entry in Merthyr Tydfil district in March quarter 1857 There are quite a lot of Irish surnames in the pages following 412, including 414, 416 and 417, so that run of GRO index numbers might be from the register of a Catholic church, or a register office if no Catholic Church was registered at the time. 3. Mary This article from the Weekly Mail of 26 September 1903 (p.5) might also be relevant to your family (sorry this is all a bit grim!): SICK AND TIRED OF LIFE. CARDIFF WOMAN'S SUICIDE BY DROWNING. Mr. E. B. Reece held on inquest at the Town- hall on Tuesday night on the body of Julia Hooley (34), who had been missed since Satur- day, and whose body was on Monday last recovered from the West Bute Dock. Mrs. Coombes, deceased's sister, said deceased was the wife of Thomas Hooley, a dock labourer, who had left her and the chil- dren. She had had eight children, of whom three were living. Deceased had sometimes stayed with witness, while the children were at Ely Schools. She had 5s. parish relief, which was given to her in food. Saturday week was the last time she stayed with wit- ness. Since then she had been in the Salva- tion Army home. The last work she did was on Saturday at the Dolphin Hotel. She had latterly been low spirited and strange in her manner, having been knocked about by her husband "in his time," and having suffered through lack of food and fretting and grieving about her children. A girl named! Norah Dwyer, of 33, North William-street, stated that on Saturday night, at nine o'clock, she was in Herbert-street, and saw a woman jump into the water, but she could not say that it was deceased.-Dr. J. J. Buist, police surgeon, said he was satisfied that drowning was the cause of death.-With Norah Dwyer was another little girl named Catherine Mead, who was not present at the coroner's inquiry, but was brought to the court upon the coroner's instructions. This witness swore that she saw deceased take off her hat and shawl. She then remarked that she was sick and tired of life, and jumped over the bridge into the feeder, and witness heard the splash in the water.-The jury returned a verdict of "Suicide whilst tempo- rarily insane." 1. [GLA] CLEARY death record 1990
    2. Mick McAllister
    3. Hi List, back onto this List for a time. I am searching for the family of CLEARY, a Liam CLEARY died in 3rd quarter of 1990 in South Glamorgan. Death occurred around 18th July. I am wondering if there may have been an obituary in the local paper that may include relatives of this Liam, I am hoping that he is my long lost family. It is sad that contact must be made through a death some time ago and family contact couldn't have been made prior to Liam's death. Liam may have been a third cousin some times removed ! Many thanks and regards, Michael McAllister

    3. Denis I don't have any known connection but I notice that Captain Granville Spray got an award for bravery at sea from the German Emporer in 1903! Check out the Welsh newspapers on-line and look at the Weekly Mail for 14 November 1903. There are some other articles relating to Captain Spray, too. 2. Mary Mizzi
    3. Hi List, Looking for my Aunty, Ellen PHILLIPS nee HOOLEY. b. 1889 Cardiff Wales. Parents. Thomas HOOLEY and Julia Ann MAHONEY Cardiff Wales. Her mother Julia Ann died in 1903 but not sure where Ellen lived after that date. Also cannot find her in the 1911 census for Glamorgan. I was told she married Michael in 1909 but cannot find that marriage either. Trying to find if she had any children. Her name is shown as N, Phillips (Nell or Nelly) as the informant on the death certificate when her father Thomas died in 1921 in Roath Wales. Her mother had many miscarriages and Ellen was the eldest daughter and living siblings were Thomas Patrick HOOLEY, b.1894 Cardiff Wales Timothy HOOLEY b. 1899 Cardiff Wales. Would love to know more about him also. I have read that the children had been in school/care in ELY when she died in 1903. Can someone tell me what that place was please, as they were with Julia and Thomas in 1901 Census for Cardiff. Would dearly love to find any records of my only Aunt and Uncle Timothy and any cousins and their decendants. Hope someone can help. My kindest regards, Mary in Sunny North Queensland where our spring has really sprung and the weather is beautiful.

    3. Thanks Jill, It doesn't help with the location but gives me another to look at as James is one of the family and I didn't have his exact death date or his burial location. The journal also gives me more information on his children and wife so a big thank you just the same. I had forgotten about those journals and now I know more I can look at them again with a new set of eyes. :) Thanks again for your help. Lyn
