Hi Ceri, Really nice to hear from you. I was only searching List Archives last week and saw your name and wondered if you were still about. Yes I am still 'almost' here! ;-)) I do miss seeing Selwyn's name on the List. He was so knowledgeable about the Rhondda and particularly 'my' patch of Lower Rhondda. Thanks for telling me about that Chapel as I was unaware that there was another Soar in Rhondda. Do you happen to have/know of any photos of it as a chapel Ceri? The Glamorgan mailing list is available in two formats - individual messages, and a Digest which is sent out once a day (if any messages have come in) or earlier if messages totalling 30kb in size have been received. Messages on all Rootsweb mailing lists are sent out in Plain Text, that is without coloured background, images, or information about fonts, font sizes and colours. It is therefore recommended that messages to the list should be sent in Plain Text. The automated processes that remove formatting information from Rich Text messages can sometimes produce odd results. All Rootsweb mailing lists have a set maximum size for individual emails. Ours is currently 17kb, which is usually ample. Each individual message has a 'footer' attached with links to the list's archived messages and other useful sites. If an individual message is sent which is more than 17kb it is shelved for review by the list admin (me) and Rootsweb sends me a list of shelved messages (usually well over 90% spam, but also occasionally messages from email addresses not subscribed to the list) once a day. For messages over the permitted size, there is a 'Reject' facility provided by Rootsweb which allows a brief explanation. The usual reasons that messages go over the permitted size are: 1. People replying to Digests, retaining the whole of the Digest in their reply 2. People using Rich Text, especially with built-in gimmicks like coloured animations 3. People attempting to attach or include pictures 4. Occasionally, providing too much information, which could have been provided in separate emails. The following advice may be helpful to all list members 1. If your email provider permits, set the 'Format' for the email to 'Plain Text' 2. If your email provider permits, switch off automatic adverts, corporate messages and gimmicks 3. When replying to an existing message, only include enough of it to give continuity, and trim off the set of web addresses which are at the end of it. 4. Do not include images. If you want an opinion on an image, put it somewhere on the internet and give a link to it. 5. If you are copying and pasting something from a web site or a Word document, you may unwittingly copy with it formatting information which may turn your message into Rich Text, so consider copying first into a pure-text package like Notepad ( or Editpad Lite which I use) and then copying only the text into your email. 6. Put your reply above the message you are replying to. This makes things easier for recipients, especially those reading their emails on hand-held gadgets. Hope this helps Jeff List admin

Message: 1 Date: Mon, 30 Sep 2013 08:21:50 +0100 From: "Robert Treharne Jones" <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [GLA] Dart To: <[email protected]> Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Hi Martin According to Johns' 1938 Newport Street Directory the resident of 79 Gaer Park Drive was a Daniel Dart, of the Great Western Railway. http://www.newportpast.com/records/directories/johns1938/search.php?road=GAE R%20PARK%20DRIVE It seems entirely possible that this was the same Daniel Dart who married Gertrude B Harvey in 1920 At least that's the only case I could find of Daniel Dart marrying someone with initial G during the likely period Registration district: Newport (Monmouthshire) County: Monmouthshire Year of registration: 1920 Quarter of registration: Jul-Aug-Sep Spouse's last name: Harvey Volume no: 11A Page no: 642 Daniel Dart died in 1966, aged 79, his wife having died in 1946, aged 62. There is evidence to suggest that Daniel had married previously, his first wife Annie having died in 1913. In 1911 Daniel and Annie were living at 58 Jeddo Street with their children Agnes, Daniel and Sarah At the time Daniel was working as a 'loco fireman' Do any of these names mean anything to you? Might your grandfather have been lodging with Daniel and Gertrude, (who don't appear to have had any children of their own)? Incidentally, when responding to the Digest version of emails on this list, it's usually a good idea to top and tail the response to get rid of all the text that has nothing to do with your response! Robert Thanks very much Robert that is really helpful. My Grandfather worked in Whitchurch Hospital and died there too in some sort of Staff Accommodation, The first time Mrs Dart came to my notice was when I received my Grandfather's Death Certificate some time ago, I can find no evidence of him and Mrs. Dart being related in any way at all. I take the point about topping and tailing irrelevant text. Karen, for all of your Rootsweb groups, the archives URL is at the bottom of all messages <G> so it is easy to go check if any mail has come in. Eliz Not Today and Not without a Fight (Anon) For all that has been, thanks. For all that will be, yes. Hi Martin According to Johns' 1938 Newport Street Directory the resident of 79 Gaer Park Drive was a Daniel Dart, of the Great Western Railway. http://www.newportpast.com/records/directories/johns1938/search.php?road=GAE R%20PARK%20DRIVE It seems entirely possible that this was the same Daniel Dart who married Gertrude B Harvey in 1920 At least that's the only case I could find of Daniel Dart marrying someone with initial G during the likely period Registration district: Newport (Monmouthshire) County: Monmouthshire Year of registration: 1920 Quarter of registration: Jul-Aug-Sep Spouse's last name: Harvey Volume no: 11A Page no: 642 Daniel Dart died in 1966, aged 79, his wife having died in 1946, aged 62. Robert -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] The point I was making was that the lady in question described herself as my Grandfather's Sister in Law not that she was! If it helps my Grandfather was Frederick William Salmon Wright born in Northampton in 1879, move to Cardiff in 1909 to take up a position at Whitchurch Mental Hospital. As far as I can make out there is no evidence whatsoever of him having a relation of that name but I might be wrong. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Robert Treharne Jones Yes, she was the sister-in-law of someone who died in 1937! Seriously, though, Martin, if you were to give us some information, such as the name of you grandfather and any other immediate family members, then members of this list could help you work out who this person was. We don't even know that she lived in the Monmouthshire area herself, but with knowledge of your grandfather's name we could help work out who his siblings were, from the census, and then establish who G Dart was from the BMD. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] When my grandfather died in 1937 the informant on his Death Certificate what's his Sister in Law, G. Dart of 79 Gaer Park Drive, Newport. Does anybody know anything about this lady?
