Aman of this same name married my great grandmother, Ann MORGAN, by license inSwansea July 1856. The marriagecertificate gives information as Widower, Mariner, residence at time ofmarriage Bargemans Row (the Morgan residence); Father William Batten, Mariner. No other record of him is found. There is a William Batten, Mariner, enumerated in 1861,1871, and 1881 censuses ages 41, 50, 60, born Brawdy, Pembrokeshire, Wales withmariners certificates also stating born Brawdy. The name, age and occupation make him a candidate for mygreat grandfather, and a birth certificate with a father’s name might disproveor not. Any possibility a reader has knowledge of this man? I’m researching from Boston, and not findingany birth records for Brawdy available on line. Thank you,Cherie Morgan --

    3. As I recall some one recently asked for pictures of a couple of pubs, one being the Bird in the Hand. A couple of owners were mentioned and I wanted to add that in the 1860s or so it was run by James and Catherine Shea (which happen to be the names of my gr gr grandparents, but whom are not). However, there must be some relation as i did have ancestors who boarded there. Sue

    3. This was circulated by the North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers in Newcastle upon Tyne. Mainly about the North of England but some is relevant to Wales and of course many Welsh miners moved there. They have produced some Mining history resource guides https://www.mininginstitute.org.uk/about-us/42-resource-guides2 These downloadable guides in PDF format give an annotated overview of resources in the NEIMME Library - and occasionally elsewhere - available to research mining topics.
