Does anyone know what has happened to the Wales Collection of Parish Records on Find My Past? Until yesterday if you clicked on "Search" on the home page of Find My Past a menu came up listing special collections of parish records covering different areas of Britain, including Wales. That menu was there yesterday morning but had vanished by the evening and it is not there this morning either. If you search for individual Welsh counties you can eventually find parish records but it was very convenient to have a quick link to all those for Wales that are available on the system. Why do Find My Past change things for the worse? Roy

Hello List In the past, I have had great help given to me by members of this list: I am hoping that you can help me once more. I am trying to find information of an Irish catholic family living in Glamorgan in the 1850s. From the 1851 census we know that James Patrick and Esther Lawler's son, John Joseph, was born in Aberdare in 1849. I am trying to ascertain where he was christened, and if a record of this is available. >From my searches on the internet, I cannot find any RC church in Glamorgan at this time in history: but it seems that there was a church in Monmouthshire. Is this correct? Is it likely that there was a travelling priest who would have performed a christening, or would the parents have had to travel to the neighbouring county? I would be grateful to hear any suggestions that listers may have. Thanking you Clare in Victoria, Australia

I have just spoken to my elderly aunt and she said he had a heart attack underground and died. She was about 10 to 15 yrs old as she remembers the "fuss" over the house and bank account and where all the money had gone and the house being left to the "housekeeper" even though there was no will. So the time frame would be 1945 to 1950ish and he lived at 8 Bridge Street. Good evening I have had a quick look at the 1911 census by address and the family living at the Commercial Hotel are Alfred and Elizabeth Phipps. They have been married 40 years so don't think it is your Elizabeth. Their children are Gertrude and Lucilla who are 25 and 23. Hope this helps if only to rule out that address. I was up my elderly aunt yesterday to get a photo of my grandparents and we were talking about the 4 brothers who came over, and she mentioned that Peter died in a mining accident, I knew he lived in Merthyr but not that it was a mining accident. I will try and see her again and try and see if she remembers a date or near too Julie Feathers -----Original Message----- From: ROBERTALUNCHICK [mailto:ROBERTALUNCHICK@AOL.COM] Sent: 15 February 2015 20:28 To: Julie Feathers Cc: <glamorgan@rootsweb.com> Subject: Re: [GLA] Mining accident but dont know when or what mine Hi Julie how do you know he died in a mining accident ? Have you tried the Coalmining History Resource Centre, Julie? http://www.cmhrc.co.uk/site/disasters/index.html Dai On 15/02/2015 19:50, Julie Feathers via wrote: > I don't know if anyone can help, I have found out my great uncle who lived > in Merthyr Tydfil died in a mining accident, but i do not know which mine or > when. > > He came over from Ireland and was born in 1892, his brothers inc my > grandfather came to Swansea. > > His name was peter Murphy and I have checked the death records on FreeBMD > but the dates of death do not match the ages at death to his birth year > > > > I have looked on the welsh mines site but I could not find him, and not all > of the mines listed have a names list, is there anywhere else i can look. > > > > Thanks > > > > Julie Feathers > > >
I don't know if anyone can help, I have found out my great uncle who lived in Merthyr Tydfil died in a mining accident, but i do not know which mine or when. He came over from Ireland and was born in 1892, his brothers inc my grandfather came to Swansea. His name was peter Murphy and I have checked the death records on FreeBMD but the dates of death do not match the ages at death to his birth year I have looked on the welsh mines site but I could not find him, and not all of the mines listed have a names list, is there anywhere else i can look. Thanks Julie Feathers
