    2. Aggie, My ancestor James Givens (1695-1746) was a brother of Samuel Givens who married Sarah Cathay. I believe if you will go to the following web address, you will find your Samuel (1793-1862) (person number 71), a descendant of Samuel and Sarah Givens. <http://www.rootsweb.com/~hcpd/norman/GIVEN>. 1. [GIVENS] Robert Givens (1640) to Nancy Caroline Givens (1866-1952)
    2. Robert, My direct line of Givens were in Knox, Roane and Madison County from the early 1800's to around 1850. My grandmother, Nancy Caroline Givens, and her mother, Mary Polly Mayo Givens visited their Mayo and Givens relatives in 1884 in the Medon and Jackson area of Madison County. There were Givens still living in the Medon area ca 1934/35. My great-grandfather, James Wilson Givens (1816-1868) and his family were in Cass Co., Texas in 1850. Samuel Givens (1755-1814) who died in Grassy Valley, Knox Co., Tenn., had 9 children. His son John (1779-1843), my great-great-grandfather had three brothers: Samuel (ca 1780) who lived in Madison Co, William T. who lived in Knox Co. and James A. who lived in Madison Co., but I know nothing about Samuel, William and James children. The Givens you are lookin for could be descended from them, but I have no documentation of their children. Jim Skelton

Description: Officially known as the Pre-1908 Homestead & Cash Entry Patent and Cadastral Survey Plat Index, This database contains the information from over 100,000 land patents dated before 1908 for the state of Ohio. Information recorded in the collection includes patentee name, land office, legal description, etc. The patentee was the first owner of property after the initial survey. Once the patent was issued, the land became private property and was then sold with a deed. The townships, the six-mile-square land blocks which were the original divisions of land from the federal land grants, were then divided into 36 one-mile squares. The township numbering was the north-south numbering, starting from the center line. The range numbering was the east-west numbering, starting from the center line. The section is the one-mile-square portion (approximately 640 acres) of a township. That was was also generally divided into 36 equal squares (each of which might be divided another 36 times). 2. Gwen Boucher
    3. Sandra, I'm using an old subject header. On todays excursion to the library I finally found the Samuel E Givens I was searching for. In the 1850 Census for Fayette Co, AL is listed: Samuel E Givens 32 M farmer 250 b AL Jane 26 F b TN My thoughts are that possibly Jane Evans married Thomas A Baugher on March 16, 1841 in Lauderdale Co, AL. On Sept 14, 1848 Jane H Boucher (Baugher), widow, married Samuel E Givens in Lowndes Co, MS, recorded in Lowndes Co Marriage Bk 3 pg 174. I can't find my notes about your Samuel Givens (census for 1850) but I wonder, could they be father and son? Boucher/Baugher/Butcher/Bougher/Boutcher/Bucher all have been used interchangably.
