I hope I'm a descendant of James but as far back as I've been able to trace is to my paternal gggrandfather, William Daniel Gilmore. My notes show the following: 1850 Census of Pike County Alabama: page 769 Wm. Gilmer 45 b. Ga. Matilda Gilmer 44 b. S.C. Jasper 2 b. Ala. Martha Posey 75 b. S.C. Wm. 17 b. Ala. Elizabeth 14 b. Ala. Ala. Matthew Jasper Gilmore, Willis Glenn Gilmore and Ralph Wilkerson Gilmore are buried beside their wives in a row of marked graves near the street at the Brundidge, AL Cemetery located on South Main Street. To the west in unmarked graves lie William Daniel, Matilda and granddaughter inside a circumscribed plot marked Gilmore. Mother told me that Martha Posey, William's mother-in-law, was a French Huguenot and hellion who was shoveled between Matilda and another daughter near Union Springs for six months when she grew old. Apparently, six months was all anyone could stand.
