My great great grandmother was Sarah Jane Gilmore. My records indicate that she was born on Dec. 11, 1816, in Washington Co GA. She married Emaual Ritch who was born in NC, probably Mecklenberg Co. They had a 10 known children who lived into middle age and all but one of them are buried in the Ritch Cemetery on the Ft Benning Army Reservation in Muscogee Co GA. Three of their sons had children, but one did not. None of their six daughters ever married. I have photos of Sarah Jane Gilmore and her old maid sister. I also have visited the Ritch Cemetery and seen all of the ornate tombstones. It is very interesting. Especially interesting is how the six daughters are arranged and what kind of Tombstones they have. My great grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Ritch, married Julia Amanda Harris and they are buried in Atlanta GA. His nickname was "Old Ship" This is short for old ship of Zion. He was reported to have been very fervent in his religious beliefs and quick to insist that someone repent and get right with God right away. I have correspondence dating to 1890 between granddaughters of Sarah Jane Gilmore Ritch. In fact one of Sarah Jane's descendants has quite a bit of material but neither he nor I know much of anything about Sarah Jane's family except for her old maid sister. Would like to here more about this family. Particularly interested in her ancestors and her descendants who went to TX. I assume that Sarah Jane's grand children who went to TX followed other relatives there. Yours, Franklin Ingram, Raleigh, NC
