JUDGEMENTS Page 69 Copy of Charles Lewis's will of Rockingham, dated 15th of Oct. 1789. Proven in Rockingham, February Court 1790. Funeral services to be read by Peachey Gilmore, as is found in Clark's Reformed Liturgy. Distressed son and his family; daughter McElhaney, daughter Gilmer: late brother General Andrew Lewis; brother William Lewis of Sweet Springs; son-in-law Col Stuart; son-in-law Layton Lancey and his wife, Fanny; unmarried daughters, Ann and Sophia; daughter Agathy Stuart; son Thomas, who has rendered himself incapable of maintaining himself by his own miscondict and follies; son-in-law John Stuart; nephew William Lewis, son of William Lewis of Sweet Springs; sons John and Andrew; daughter, Jean, wife of Thomas Hughes. John, Andrew and Jean are excluded on account of their vices. Infant sons Charles and William; grandsons, Thomas and Charles, sons of John Lewis; granddaughter, Elizabeth; daughters, Margaret Bowyer, Mary McElhaney, Elizabeth Gilmore. Page 90 Will of John Beatie, of Washington county, dated 18th Aug. 1790, proven in Washington co. 14th Sept. 1790. Wife Elenor, son William, daughter Agness Dysart, granddaughters Ellinor and Martha Gilmore, son David, son-in-law David Sawyers, son-in-law James Logan, son-in law Mathew Ryburn. Page 91-92 Sarah Parks, aged 50 years, deposes November, 1796, in Hamshire that 28 years ago she moved with her husband, Richard Boyce, to Patterson's Creek Manor. Previously she had knowned John Gilmore and his family, who lived in the neighborhood with her on Opeckon Creek in Frederick Co. and who had moved to Patterson's Manor Creek before Sarah. Gilmore had at least five daughters, viz; Eleanor, Margaret, Nancy, Betsey and Polly. Gilmore died two years or three years after he obtained a lease. Eleanor married William Howel. Two or three years after her father's death Margaret died and afterwards the daughter named Polly called herself Margaret. Eleanor is dead at this date of deposition. John Vandever, aged 40, deposes as above; He is son of William Vandever. William Vandever, aged over 70 years, deposes as above; he lived in the Manor 26 years. Gilmore obtained his lease about the 14th of May, 1771, when Eleanor was about 17-18 years old and Margaret about 16-17. Benjamin Rutherford, aged 78, deposes in Winchester, 5th Nov. 1796. He moved to the manor about 4 years before Braddock's defeat. Isaac Free had already settled there with others. Answer of George Hill says in 1740 Fairfax issued a proclamation inviting persons to settle in the Manor and Isaac Free was one of the first. He sold to John Gilmore, now deceased. Page 182 Gilmore vs. Gilmore--O.S.223; N.S.82--Deed 21st December 1793, by John Miller and Jane Miller, his Mother; Margaret Miller his wife; Samuel Miller and Polly, his wife, of Rockingham to Thomas and Gad Gilmore, 169 1/2 acres on Muddy Creek in Rockingham, patented to Alexander Miller, 14th May 1787, who died interstate, and the land descended to above grantors, his widow and children. Recorded in Rockingham, Dec. 1793. Grantees were brothers.
