Carol, Wonderful to hear from you. I've got so many questions/comments, it's likely to get confusing, and is definetly too much for one letter. I'll do more later. I'll start with general observations, if you don't mind. The beginnings of your reply generally match my research (of more than 20 yrs). In particular, My earliest "link" is to a pair of genealogical query/column in the 'Boston Transcript' Transcribed from the 'Boston Transcript' genealogy column of August 3, 1932: "5074. 2. BELL, CODNER, TWIST. Samuel Bell m ___? Codner; William Bell, their son, married Rachel Twist; their daughter, Elvira Bell m Frank Shay, son of Peter Shay and Mary Murphy of Rochester, N.Y. The above are of N.Y. State. Wanted the Bell, Codner, Twist lines. M. C. P. C." Transcribed from the 'Boston Transcript' genealogy column of August 25, 1932: "5074.2. BELL, CODNER, TWIST. N. C. D. C. Aug. 3, 1932. Samuel and Mary (Smith) Gilmore, with three sons, three daughters and four grandchildren, arrived at Philadelphia from Tyrone, Ireland, in September, 1798. Their eldest daughter, Mary, and her husband, William Bell, brought two of the grandchildren: Thomas, born Jan. 1, 1796, who married, 1820, Anne Van Giesen and had four daughters, died June 11, 1878, at Sennett; and Samuel, born March, 1798, married, 1822, Mary (Polly) Codner. Their children: Lucy, born 1823, died 1891, in Iowa, married a Baldwin; Mary, married Elija Talmadge; Julia, married Erie T. Ward; William, married and had a family; Caroline, married a Young; Margaret, married (second wife) Erie T. Ward; Henry, killed in Michigan; Hattie, never married; and Charles. Your Samuel Bell left Ireland aged two months, arrived aged eight months. He died September 15, 1883, in California. Have an ambrotype of Polly Codner, given me by Mary, daughter of the above Thomas Bell, and authority for this statement. P. B. W." The above information, combined with a Bible record, a journal recorded (I believe) by a grand-daughter of Samuel and Mary (SMITH) GILMORE, and my research into CayugaCo, NY census records suggested the following the following tables. ***Please note: Some of this may be conjecture by me or others.
