Thanks for reading this rambling. Louis > Taunton Louis, Located this: 1827: GEORGIA LAND LOTTERY PAPERS 1805-1914 Davis and Lucas p. 316 . Re: 1827 Land Lottery - Lot 217-5 Coweta, Co., Ga. The petition of Henry Taunton, guardian of the orphans of Stephen Gilmore, deceased, respectfully sheweth that his father Nathan Taunton who was the grandfather of the said orphans gave in their names for draws in the land lottery of 1827 to one Brown who was appointed by the Inferior Court of Crawford Co., Ga for that purpose. That it was his intended to give in said children as orphans of Stephen Gilmore and your petitioner who was present at the giving in, heard sd. Brown ask the names of sd. orphans and someone replied that the oldest was named Hughey. The names were given in, in Dukes district, Crawford Co. and during the drawings of the lottery lot 217 in the 5 District Coweta county was drawn by Hughey Gilmore's orphans in Duke Dist., Crawford Co., Ga. Now as there has at no time been such orphans in sd. district your petitioner has been induced to believe that a mistake was made by the person. Brown, who took down said names and said lot of land belongs to Hughey Gilmore and the other orphans of Stephen Gilmore whose names were given in, in sa and subscribed before me this 29th day of Oct. 183- (sic) Henry Taunton. before Moses Tullis J.P. 1827 Land Lottery Draws-. of residence - Washington Co., Ga TAUNTON, Henry - Rev.
