Ted, How do you know Grant was part Cherokee? I too have always heard there is Cherokee blood in this family, but haven't defined it. I know the Gilmore's I have met have Cherokee traits, especially in skin tone and cheekbones. But where is it coming from??? (My husband is from John H and Katy Darnall also.) Catherine Darnell Gilmore's uncle Nicholas Darnell, Jr. and his wife Faithy moved from Henry Co. TN to Greene Co. MO and Nicholas and his son William S. Darnell show up in the 1833 tax list for Greene Co. William S. Darnell married first Margaret Mitchell Nov.21 1817 in Logan Co. KY. William S. married second to Sarah "Sallie" M. Thompson who was born in Logan Co. KY in 1797 and they had eight children including Lucy Ann Darnell born in Greene Co. in 1844. Does this match the Sarah "Darneal" in the census? I had suspected that this Joseph was either a son or brother of John Gilmore because he lived near the family. We knew that Grant Gilmore, son of James L. and Sarah Lamb Gilmore was part Cherokee. Maybe he got it from the Gilmore side as well as the Lambs. Ted At 04:13 PM 4/29/99 -0500, you wrote: >Shirley Moore >smoore03@mail.orion.org > >All this info is out of Greene Co.
