I am researching Gilmores of Alabama, Georgia and SC. My great great grandmother was Mary Gilmore, m. to Charles Cogdell (Cogdale), 12-17-1818 NC - 12-25-1901. They were found in the 1870 Pike Co. AL census and had 12 children. (If you would like this information, please ask.) Mary's parents were William Gilmore and Matilda. I have found evidence that Matilda's maiden name was probably PASEY, though some may say POSEY, however I have dome some handwriting analisys and have found other PASEYs living nearby, so I am pretty sure it is PASEY. Mary was b.2-18-1827 AL - d.4-10-1910 AL. William Gilmore was b.1805 GA, and Matilda was b.1808 SC, according to the 1850 AL census. An elderly woman, Martha Pasey (Posey), b. c.1776 in SC was living with them at the time, and was most probably Matilda's mother. They were living in Bullock Co. AL by the 1870 census. William Gilmore and Matilda had 8 other cildren besides Mary; William, Elizabthe, Eliza, James, Sarah, Joseph, Frances, Jasper. Is anyone researching this line or possibly the siblings of Mary, or other Gilmores from these areas. I would like to hear from you.
