I'm trying to establish my Gilmore line. Here is what I have: Jane Gilmore (my 3rd G-grandmother) m. William Wicker about 1791 probably in Washington Co. Georgia. They both died 1850-52 in Pike Co. AL. William's father, Robert Hester Wicker moved on to MO. in 1806 with some of his children, but William stayed in Georgia at that time. I believe Jane is the daughter of Humphry Gilmore/Catherine Wiley. Their first daughter was Jane, b. Dec. 9, 1774 in Cumberland Co. NC. I am aware of the note usually attached to Jane's name that no other info has been found on her so she probably died young. But did she? Following William around from his pension records, I find him moving around where Humphry's other children and their cousins moved. William was born in Virginia and moved with his parents to Anson Co. NC 1765-66, to SC 1774-76, served in the Rev. War (he served twice, once for SC and once for NC), then moved to Columbia Co. GA for a year, then to Washington Co. GA for 17 years (probably to raise a family). He belonged to the Bethlehem Bapt. Church till he got in trouble for drinking and fighting, then moved to Wilkinson Co. GA. In 1826-7 he moved to Barbour Co. AL. William and Jane both died in Pike Co. AL..... (Wonder how Humphry felt for his daughter marrying a Baptist?) What I need to know is can my Jane be the daughter of Humphry or is there any other possibilities? They seemed to follow, or move with, others of Humphry's family. Thanks, Shirley Wicker Hendrix Murray, KY hendrix@mursuky.campus.mci.net
