Hi Wilma, Not a long shot at all. My Grandfather Oscar Davis Gilmore lived his entire life in Howard County, MO And his father Addison Young Gilmore was there in 1870 with his wife Elizabeth Trent and 9 of their 17 children. I dont see any Gilmores in the 1860 census for Howard Co. but I did find another Addison Gilmore living in nearby Morgan county in the 1850 census and found where he purchased land in morgan county as early as 1841. I haven't been able to prove that he is my Addison's father but it certainly seems possible. Maybe we can tie your John in also.
