Goodmorning, For some time I have rec'd mail from this list hoping to connect to one of the John GILMOREs. After spending hours trying to sort it out I am even more confused! My 3 ggrandfather, John GILMORE, Jr b 1798, Elbert Co., GA m Mary Grey ALSTON and later lived and raised family in Fayette Co., AL. On the 1850 census his father, John GILMORE age 75 b 1775 NC was living with them. I haven't been able to find the Sr Gilmore's wife, nor his parents. I did find the following "John Gilmore b 1776 NC m Priscilla Smith in Pulaski Co., KY. She was daughter of Anderson Smith & Priscilla Williams." I believe this event took place in 1806 but Jr. was born 1798! Jr. named one of his daughters (my ggrandmother) Sina Priscilla so thought there might be a connection. I have heard John Jr. was a Methodist Circuit Rider at one time in MS before moving to AL. Was his father James, who maybe was a minister in Pulaski Co., Ky and who performed the ceremony??
