    1. Re: GILMORE IN MN/ COUNTY GALWAY, IRE
    2. Peter, In regard to Gilmores from County Galway. I know that my grandfather Patrick was born in Dunmore, County Galway. I believe his parents were John Gilmore and Julia Ganley Gilmore. He had brothers Tom and Ed and a sister Mary. I have visited descendants of his sister Mary in Ireland. One of them lives on the farm where Patrick was born; the remains of the old house is still there. We haven't done enough research to know how long the Gilmores were there or where they may have come from. My grandfather was born about 1858. Most of my genealogical research has been on my Father's side (Byrne), but I am anxious to do more on the Gilmores. While I have been in regular contact with the Gilmore relatives, we haven't dug too deeply. I now have an e-mail contact with their family, so that may help speed things along. My Gilmore line here in the states is quite limited. My grandfather married twice and had 3 sons in his first marriage (wife died very young) and 3 daughters in the second marriage. My mother was the only daughter to have children; one of his sons had onely one child... a son. All I know about him is that his mother's maiden name was Smith. That is the line I would be interested in tracking down. Hope I haven't gone on too long with this, or that it was not appropriate for the entire list. (All of these e-mail lists are different, some more tolerant than others. Anyway, I hope I haven't offended anyone. Pat (in MN)
