Geez Barb, you are really having a time of it! Hope the situation takes a quick turn for the better. Didn't you already replace a hard drive in recent past? Maybe I'm thinking of someone else, as have heard several tragic stories about failed equipment lately. (Including me last summer.) So far our new H P Pavilion is running like a champ. They are almost giving computers away these days, have seen same setup as ours for $800 !!!!! Of course we paid more like $1,600 (rebates of several hundred, so really abt $1,300), but, that's the norm in computer world. My Pearl Tyler was born 1880 in Vernon Co, MO, m 1896 in Dade Co, MO, to Milford Dickerson. Pearl's folks were Millie E Gilmore born abt 1854 MO, m 1878 in Vernon Co, MO, to Levi Tyler. It's Millie E Gilmore that has me stumped. Hi Cousins, while looking for some of my Osage Indian family, I ran across some Gilmore folks that were on the roll, so thought someone may be able to use the information. Mary Gilmore#1271 S.J. Gilmore#1272 Sheriff Gilmore#1273 William H. Gilmore#1274 Now these were from the Indian Territory and there seems to be some Cherokee Gilmores too. Try looking in the Native American lists of OK and IT.. Hope it helps someone.
Hi Cousins, once again please get a hold of me, my hard drive did it again. Vickie, I need you to contact me, there is a lady that has a Pearl Gilmore. I hope that was your line!!! Hoping to hear from you all. barb

OOOPS - Mary Gilmore, daughter of William and Diana Gilmore (from Farmerstown, NY) married Henry Quick 16-Sept-1847 in Steuben Co., IN. NOT 1894 as I so absentmindedly copied from her obituary! This date (1847) is from marriage records of Steuben County. Obviously the 1894 date is an error in her obit as their children were born 1848, 1850, 1853, etc. Sorry I did not catch it when I wrote the previous note. Catherine

Good morning, I've been lurking on this list for a bit, looking for a possible link, since it seems that so many on this list seem to be related to each other. I've been working on my family history for a couple of years now, and every now and then I work on my GILMORE line only to be faced with a brick wall, and no way to get past it. So, I usually end up putting it away for awhile to find it again later and reach the same conclusion. I love to do research and finding this branch of my family is becoming a quest for me because other relatives are working on other branches but no one seems to get very far on this one, and I want to be able to shed some light on it for them. Anyway....here's what I know, and maybe someone has run across information on my family in looking for their own. Thomas Carr GILMORE was born in 1853 to parents unknown in OH. (I need some help figuring out where in OH to start looking. I understand that during this time there were probably 2-300 Gilmore's in OH - YIKES!) He married Mary Josephine O'Bryant in Larue County Kentucky on January 30, 1876 and they had two girls. Mary Agnes Gilmore b. 1877 and Anna Elizabeth Gilmore b. May 1880. I can't find anything on either of the girls past their marriages and that's only from family talk..no hard data to confirm spellings, and full names and dates. Josephine died in 1881, then Thomas married her sister Jennie Louise O'Bryant on Dec. 28, 1882. They had 5 children together. Franklin Lee Gilmore b. December 1884, Josie T. Gilmore b. October 1887 d. 1919 and is buried with Thomas and Jennie in the Hodgenville KY Catholic cemetary. Geneva Gilmore b. Sept 1889, Jane Gilmore b. May 1891 and Thomas Byard Gilmore b. November 27, 1895. Thomas Carr Gilmore was a carpenter all his life and died in December 1895 (we assume) when he fell off a ladder and broke his neck. He died in Ft. Smith, AR where he was building the city, and on several occasions we know that his wife visited there or he went back to KY to visit. I can provide more on the descendants, but would really like to learn more about Thomas Carr and his life and ancestors because I just can't imagine that he dropped out of the sky one day...<smile> Thank you in advance for any advice you can provide, even if it's just to point me in a direction to go look. Looking for information on George D. Gilmer (also Gillmer) born Dec. 6, 1879 and his brother Peter Gilmer b. Dec. 1883. Not positive of birthplace, believe it to be Germany. The family came to northern IN shortly after. George married Mary Elizabeth Riggs and Peter married her sister Grace Mary. Peter and Grace are my great-grandparents. We have found little information on the family, any help would be appreciated! Deb Murray 100 Maintenance Center Notre Dame, IN 46556
There was a William Gilmore went to Otsego twsp, Steuben County, IN. from Farmerstown, NY. about 1836 with his wife and family. The only child I have a record for is Mary who married Henry Qucik Sept 16, 1894 in Steuben County, IN. Mary's mother's name was Dianna (from Mary's obit). This is all the information I have. I would appreciate having more information for this family. Catherine
Peter, I have to confess a cardianl sin in genealogy....these notes were made when I first started, and now I'm not sure about references. That was a hard lesson to learn (mea culpa)! But what I find on my family group sheet is a reference to Dobson's "The Original Scots Colonists, 1612-1783" 941.1 Do. I'm not sure if this was used for this family or not. My other notes show his ch.: Andrew b. c 1690, residence Bedford, NH; James c. 1693 Ulster, NI, d. 19 NOV 1773, m. Thankful Tyrrel 20 SEP 1725 Weymouth, Mass; David c. 1695; Agnes b. c1697; Thankful b. c1699; Nona b. c1700. It is possible that I found these in the IGI, because I do have film #'s or his brother Robert who m. Marian Kennedy. Another possibility is the DAR roll # 757 (film #3), Vital Records: Methuen, EssexCo., Mass. I had a problem with dates until I realized that the births of some of the NH line's children were in NH records, and baptisms in Mass. (For my ancestor). This may be a place to search. Also, many leads were gained from research done by Claude Hamel from Ohio. This work is in the Library of Congress, but I think it was under the surname HAMEL rather than GILMORE. Wish that I had taken better notes on documentation, but I hope that this helps. If I find more, I'll post it. I just signed on, and don't know what the > prior posts were! > Cheryl > Cheryl, I have some information on your line. But first, here's why your brief message is of such significance to me. Together with a distant relation (who still lives on a farm that been in the Gilmore family for many generations) I have been on the track of Gilmore origins in the north of Ireland and Scotland. We identified a number of John Gilmores (various spellings) in Renfrewshire and Lanarkshire for a period of 1650-1700; up until yesterday, the most likely candidate for our ancestor seemed to be a Johne Gilmour, born Eaglesham (Renfrewshire) June 1659, father Arthour Gilmour. We came upon no reference to Robert married to Bessie Horn. We found record of a marriage between John Gilmor and Agnes Parke in Eastwood (Renfrewshire) on July 15, 1695, but not the marriage between John Gilmore and Agnes Park in 1688. This is particularly significant because of what else we found. We found the record of children born to the John and Agnes married in 1695. They matched, more or less -- but not exactly -- the children we believed to have emigrated with John and Agnes to Massachusetts early in the 18th century. All were born in Scotland. This information troubled me because there were differences in the lists of children, because the names of the children born to John's son James and wife Thankful Tyrell should have corresponded more to those of his James's siblings (assuming he followed naming customs) and because family legend had the children of John and Agnes born in Ireland. It was if we were looking at the record of a different John and Agnes. Based on your brief communication, it would appear as though my suspicions were correct -- that there were another John and Agnes who did in fact live (for a spell) in Ireland and parented a different set of children, including the James from whom I am descended. This is very exciting to me, and I am eager to learn more. As to your family, there is (as I indicated) a lot of research done. There are actually two self-published monographs on your family origins, both of which are in the NH State Library and possibly the NY Public Library as well. (Why go to the top of the Empire State Building when he can scale the heights of genealogy?) Frank Storey Osgood wrote: "Robert and James Gilmore Who Settled in Southern New Hampshire and Their Descendants, also A Brief Account of Other Gilmores Who are Not Related to Them." Newburyport, Mass., 1926. He has on your ancestor, William, the son of Robert and Mary Ann Kennedy, that he was born in 1685 in Coleraine (County Derry, Ireland) and died on May 9, 1753 in Londonderry, N.H. He gives for the sons of William and Elizabeth: William, born 1720, died 1747 John, born 1722 Robert, born 1724 Jean, b. 1726 Ann, b. 1726 James Mary,1730-1. An additional, and valuable source, would be "Genealogy of the Windham, Rockingham Co., New Hampshire Line of the Gilmour-Gilmore Family," published in 1964 by Mrs. Claude Charles Hamel. Hamel says: "Those who settled in Londonderry, N.H. in April of 1719 were said to have arrived in Boston, Mass. on August 4, 1718 on the Brigantine Robert, under the command of James Ferguson. The immigrants of 1718 came largely from the Bann River Valley..." In addition to Parker's "History of Londonderry," there are also references to your ancestors in the excellent "Scotch-Irish Pioneers in Ulster and America" by Charles Knowles Bolton, which has (somewhat) recently reprinted. Hope this helpful; please be in touch. Peter Gilmore
