I have seen lots of discussion about Gilmore's from Mongomery County Kentucky. I have two questions: 1) Can someone tell me where this county is in the state? Is it on the Ohio side? 2) Does anyone know of a Margaret Gilmore who married a John Cobey? I have them living in Springfield Ohio in 1860. Margaret is 39 and John is 30. I could be wrong, but there is a 50/50 chance that Margaret is a Gilmore. Thanks in advance for any help _____________________ Joe Walsh FutureTense, Inc. jwalsh@futuretense.com http://www.futuretense.com (978) 635-3141
Ted, I can't thank you enough! maybe with this information (especially the different spelling of Gilmore) I might find an Addison Young Gilmore or Walter Mudd Gilmore. One more question. Are you a member of Ancestry.com? Is it worth joining? It seems that most information is from there but I'm never sure if people travel to the library are if they are really able to find this on the net as a registered member. What do you think? I have researched the Gilmores of Rockbridge Co., VA to Pulaski Co., KY for about 15 years or more. The Rockingham Co., VA Gilmores came from Pennsylvania to Virginia, and we assume the Rockbridge Co., VA Gilmores were also in Pennsylvania before coming down to Augusta/Rockbridge Counties but I have not been able to prove it. I found a death record for a Mrs. Lou Adams b. 18 Aug 1870 MO d. 27 Mar 1922. This was evidently in Springfield MO. Her body was shipped to Pilgram, Dade Co. Mo for burial. Father was listed as Andrew J. Durnell b. KY and Catherine Gilmore b. ?. I tried to find the cemetery that Mrs. Adams was buried in but didn't. Pilgram is close to Friend Cem. where several Gilmores are buried. Any body know about these people? Shirley Moore smoore03@mail.orion.org

Freda Thanks for the information. As I said, I found this information long ago before learning it was not from my line. Do you have the ancestry of this James? Since Patrick Gilmore, Sr. of Warren Co. KY was born in Augusta Co. VA I have been wondering if all of these KY Gilmores aren't related back in VA or PA. Hi Norma and all the other cousins in WONDER Land- I found in the Gillmore- Carter book that Patrick Gillmore, Jr m 2nd Mary Martin July 1848 widow in Warren Co KY - - - - - -Patrick Gillmore, Jr, and first wife, name unknown, Montgomery Co, KY 1810 census listed two sons and one daughter. Is your Richard Gilmore the one listed in Kentucky Land Grants, Vol 1, Part 1, Chapter IV? Also found 1790 NC Salisbury Dist, Guilford Co Census a Patrick Gilmore, head of family with 7 free white males under 16. This would be Patrick Sr, right? Are we talking same lineage here? Thanks, Pat
The Gilmores are more than mysterious! According to one source Samuel W. Gilmore ended up with his son Dr Elisha E. Gilmore in Bates Co MO. The Gillmore-Carter and Allied Families book says (and I quote) "Son Samuel Gillmore born 1812 Montgomery Co KY Married Oct 10 1831 Warren Co KY, Rosina Adair b 1813 KY, dau of Elisha Adair. They both died in Dade Co. MO" If they BOTH died in Dade Co, then when and where did SHE die, and when and where did HE die? I thought researching my Mary Smith was tough!! Help, please. Thanks, Pat
James Gilmore who married Martha Dennison?/Beattie? was in Rockbridge Co., VA and not Rockingham County. Beanblossom has confused the two James Gilmores - Rockingham and Rockbridge Gilmores. James and Martha Dennison? Gilmore had the following children: Margaret b. ca 1740 m. Mr. Anderson (don't now his first name) Mary Gilmore b. 1742 m. William Foster. John Gilmore b. 1743 m. 24 Jun 1791 Elizabeth Beach. Moved to Pulaski Co., KY. James Gilmore b. 1745 m. Martha McElwee. Moved to Pulaski Co., KY. James commanded the Rockbridge Rifles at the Battle of Cowpens. Martha Gilmore b. ca 1750 m. Capt. James Hall. Buried in Rockbridge Co. Samuel Gilmore b. 1755 m. Elizabeth Modrell. To PUlaski Co., KY, TN and MO. Joseph Gilmore m. 1793 Susanna Paxton. Remained in Rockbridge Co. William Gilmore b. ca 1760 m. Martha Lackey. To Putnam Co, IN. Agnes (Nancy) Gilmore b. ca 1761 m. Joseph McAlister. To Pulaski Co., KY. Isabella Gilmore m. James Lackey. Elinor Gilmore b. ca 1765 m. 5 Oct 1784 Rockbridge Co. to Joseph Williams. Possibly moved to Pulaski Co., KY. Freda Strampe
Most of his decendents are over in Dade Co. MO. I've been to just about every Gilmore grave in this area (Greene/Christian) Co. and very few of the Gilmores are KY Gilmores or decendents. The Gilmores in Fraizer are the decendents of Margarette Gilmore, daughter of John and Catherine. She has relatives buried over in the Sparta area and one brother buried in Taney Co. Several of the Gilmores living (or buried) in the Boaz area are decendents of John and Rosanna Good Gilmore. This includes another miller named Homer Gilmore. There are just a couple of burials in Greene Co. that are decendents of the KY Gilmores. Willis Gilmore, son of John and Louisa Lamb Gilmore is buried with his wife and mother-in-law, Elizabeth Pope Inman at Eastlawn in Springfield. The rest of the Gilmores around Springfield are from the Tenn family of Hugh Gilmore. The KY Gilmores are buried in several cemeteries in Dade Co. This includes Pennsboro Cem, Friend Cem, Greenfield Cem, and Pleasant Grove Cem. BTW, would sure like to prove that my ancestor Sarah Gilmore Inmon is the daughter of John and Catherine Darnell Gilmore. Well, Ted & Shirley - you've certainly given me a lot of new information to think about - thank you! And, Ted, I think you're right - that your John and my Andrew were brothers. It's nice to make contact with another cousin, Ted. At least, I now know Sarah might have been a Darnal. What strikes me as strange is that someone would have crossed out Sarah's last name (Darnal) on the marriage record. And then, to just write in Elizabeth's name as mother & not Richard's as father; almost as though Sarah was not considered a Darnal. Am I confused? Shirley - I only have William married one time - to Frances. I don't have anything about a marriage to a Martha? Wow! Maybe, Frances isn't my ancestor! When you check your paper files, I will, of course, appreciate any clarifying information you may have. I so appreciate your help. Thank you. Norma noyng@aol.com
Ted, Do you have the names of any daughters of James Gilmore (b 1722) and Martha DENNISON? Thanks, Mary Foster Ted previously wrote: >Linda > >I dug out my notes. Linda I dug out my notes. I have the source as Mormon microfilm 897,455 of the book Gilmore Family Genealogy by Walter S. Beanblossom. James Gilmore (II) was a Rev. War Vet so his papers probably give some additional information. Here is what my notes say: James Gilmore b 1722 Northern Ireland came to Lancaster Co. PA in 1735 and married Martha DENNISON. He moved to Augusta Co. VA. Sons John and Thomas were born there. In 1764 he moved to Rockingham Co. VA. Other sons were James, David and William James Gilmore (II) son of above was b Jan 17, 1745 Lancaster Co. PA. He served several tours in the Rev. War and received pension S30,432. He moved to KY in 1780 to Montgomer Co. 1782 Lincoln Co. 1815 to Christian Co. Will signed 25 May 1832 probated 2 Dec. 1834 in Christian Co. The will lists sons James, George, and Alexander. (In his will the family name was written Gilmour) James Gilmore (III) Married Nancy Mudd in Hardin Co. KY 10/22/1817 consent of James Gilmore and Walter Mudd. Nancy was a sister of Priscilla and Millie Mudd who married Smith and Alexander Gilmore sons of David Gilmore. You can see why the name Walter Mudd Gilmore rang a bell with me. Don't forget me....I am going thru Richard GILMORE also... Richard to John H. to Margaret (yes GILMORE) to David to Dora (my husbands gmother). I am going to Cemeterys Christmas week in Springfield area. Planning on hitting Frazier Cemetery, in Boaz among some others where other lines are buried. Anybody know of Cemeterys in that area, other than Frazier, where Patrick GILMOREs decendents are buried? Thanks, Marilyn
Sorry Cousins, It's the same ole grind with me, I'm still a one ancestor Gilmore as follows: Millie E. Gilmore born abt 1854 Missouri her "proper name" is: DeMillard Elizabeth Gilmore She married Levi S. Tyler 28 Jul 1878 in Vernon Co, Missouri In 1896 Millie and Levi lived in Cane Hill, Cedar Co, Missouri Her parents origins: 1880 census Vernon Co, MO Father MO Mother MO 1900 census Searcy Co, AR " MO " MO 1920 census Latimer Co, OK " Indiana " Illinois I have no explanation for the differences in parental origins, except that someone else may have given the information to one or more of the census takers. I do know that Millie was illiterate, she was listed as not able to read or write, while Levi did, and have I have seen his legible signature on a land record in Arkansas. The 1920 census is the last that is known about either Millie or Levi. Several searches of different time spans in both Arkansas and Oklahoma have failed to produce a death certificate. Their daughter, Pearlie Mae, died in 1925 Dade Co, Missouri, and guess nobody kept in touch with them after that. If you made it all the way to here, thanks for "listening," it's appreciated. Hope to find an "official" cousin connection some day. Vicki Peterson in Clovis, CA
Here's some more GILMORE's, only mine are from Illinois and Nebraska. Does any of these names look familiar? I have checked all the Family Tree Maker and Ancestry.com files. No matches. Working 6 days a week, makes it impossible for me to get to Seattle to look up census records. Looking for Marshall Calvin GILMORE's siblings and parents, etc. I have the FTM 1850 Illinois census microfilm CD. If I can find out who his parents were, then perhaps I can find additional info about him and his ancestors. The following info was sent to my sister and brother-in-law.
