The petition of Henry Taunton, guardian of the orphans of Stephen Gilmore, deceased, respectfully sheweth that his father Nathan Taunton who was the grandfather of the said orphans gave in their names for draws in the land lottery of 1827 to one Brown who was appointed by the Inferior Court of Crawford Co., Ga for that purpose. That it was his intended to give in said children as orphans of Stephen Gilmore and your petitioner who was present at the giving in, heard sd. Brown ask the names of sd. orphans and someone replied that the oldest was named Hughey. The names were given in, in Dukes district, Crawford Co. and during the drawings of the lottery lot 217 in the 5 District Coweta county was drawn by Hughey Gilmore's orphans in Duke Dist., Crawford Co., Ga. I know I've posted this message here in the past but I thought I'd try once more in case someone has come across these names. I am searching for information on the ancesters of Addison Young Gilmore Born: 2/9/1834 in Kentucky (county unknown) Died: 10/24/1920 in Howard County, MO He married Elizabeth TRENT also born in Kentucky. I do know Addison had a brother living in Macon Co., IL named Walter Mudd Gilmore however when I questioned my Grandmother about this she says he never mentioned having family anywhere, no one ever visited their farm and A. Y. and Elizabeth never travelled. Hope someone has an idea for a conneciton because I'm stumped. Thanks again for listening. Linda Malloy

JoAnn, Thanks for everything that you are posting to the list on the Gilmores. I have gone from knowing virtually nothing about my Sarah Jane Gilmore who, according to the 1850 GA Census, was born in Washington Co GA, and who married Emanual Ritch to having a whole history of ancestors. (Yes the Census taker actually listed the counties in which the individual was born.) Do you think that my Sarah Jane Gilmore is a descendant of the Gilmores from Moore Co NC? If so, I can really get a lot of information on them. I live in Raleigh, NC and am a regular visitor to the NC Archives. Let me know what to research, if any thing, and I will dig it out. Also, I am not sure that I got all of the Bible Records. Did you post them all? Or do I need to special request the rest? Thanks for any other help that you can be. Franklin
Carol, Wonderful to hear from you. I've got so many questions/comments, it's likely to get confusing, and is definetly too much for one letter. I'll do more later. I'll start with general observations, if you don't mind. The beginnings of your reply generally match my research (of more than 20 yrs). In particular, My earliest "link" is to a pair of genealogical query/column in the 'Boston Transcript' Transcribed from the 'Boston Transcript' genealogy column of August 3, 1932: "5074. 2. BELL, CODNER, TWIST. Samuel Bell m ___? Codner; William Bell, their son, married Rachel Twist; their daughter, Elvira Bell m Frank Shay, son of Peter Shay and Mary Murphy of Rochester, N.Y. The above are of N.Y. State. Wanted the Bell, Codner, Twist lines. M. C. P. C." Transcribed from the 'Boston Transcript' genealogy column of August 25, 1932: "5074.2. BELL, CODNER, TWIST. N. C. D. C. Aug. 3, 1932. Samuel and Mary (Smith) Gilmore, with three sons, three daughters and four grandchildren, arrived at Philadelphia from Tyrone, Ireland, in September, 1798. Their eldest daughter, Mary, and her husband, William Bell, brought two of the grandchildren: Thomas, born Jan. 1, 1796, who married, 1820, Anne Van Giesen and had four daughters, died June 11, 1878, at Sennett; and Samuel, born March, 1798, married, 1822, Mary (Polly) Codner. Their children: Lucy, born 1823, died 1891, in Iowa, married a Baldwin; Mary, married Elija Talmadge; Julia, married Erie T. Ward; William, married and had a family; Caroline, married a Young; Margaret, married (second wife) Erie T. Ward; Henry, killed in Michigan; Hattie, never married; and Charles. Your Samuel Bell left Ireland aged two months, arrived aged eight months. He died September 15, 1883, in California. Have an ambrotype of Polly Codner, given me by Mary, daughter of the above Thomas Bell, and authority for this statement. P. B. W." The above information, combined with a Bible record, a journal recorded (I believe) by a grand-daughter of Samuel and Mary (SMITH) GILMORE, and my research into CayugaCo, NY census records suggested the following the following tables. ***Please note: Some of this may be conjecture by me or others. William and Jane (Gilmore) Wicker's sons, John and Thomas, went to AR. One of William's sister's went to LA...... When they left AL, they went every which way... William's parents went to MO... Barb, I'm sorry to be so dumb, but I don't understand why a Gilmore would be receiving an annuity for Indians and what is a "rool" that Henry Gilmore signed? I'm not familiar with the term "Osage Indians" is that a tribe? a location? Again I apologize if these questions are really dumb, but I've never heard of this before.
