While researching GILMOREs in Rockbridge I found the following information: 2 May 1865 Thomas K.* Gilmore*, 23, S, b/Missouri, Farmer, son of Joseph Gilmore & Catherine Gilmore, *B-1 has init. R., B-1A has Gilmon, married Mary E. Watson, 21, S, b/Rockbridge, daughter of Dr. James F.** Watson & Sarah D.E. Watson, Wm. F. Junkin officiating, ** B-1A init. different, not shown on page. pg 136 I have several questions about this and hope you can help me out. First, there seems to be some confusion as to the correct middle initial of Thomas. Does anyone know if it is "K" or "R"? Second, I can't seem to find a record of Thomas being born or farming in Missouri, and since he was married in Rockbridge did he return there to stay or go back to Missouri with his new wife. Does anyone have information on this family? Thanks Linda Malloy
I would be willing to help transcribe or scan the newsletter if permission is obtained. Gary, The library I use a set of Gilmore Newsletters. I will compare your list with what they have. It will be a couple of days though. Thanks. Franklin
I took the Gilmore newsletter many years ago for a few issues. May be it would be more productive to put the actual chart information into a genealogy program and exchange the data files. GEDCOM files can be easily e-mailed or put up on a server for others to download. Another way to do it would be to scan in pages of each issue and produce a pdf file. The pdf files then could be printed by anyone that wanted them. The advantage of this is that the information cannot be changed. The pdf files are really graphics. We are doing this with a local genealogy newsletter. -- *** P*E*A*C*E *** H*O*P*E *** L*O*V*E *** J*0*Y *** Judy Pfaff pfaff@pilot.msu.edu MMGS Newsletter Editor http://userdata.acd.net/mmgs

FYI I've just checked my copies of the newsletter from 1985-89 and I do not see a copyright. I know virtually nothing about copyright law, however. Let's establish how many issues existed. I'm aware of: 1Q85 2Q85 3Q85 4Q85 1Q86 2Q86 3Q86 4Q86 1Q87 2Q87 3Q87 4Q87 1Q88 2Q88 3Q88 4Q88 June 89 /Gary Gilmore

But just a reminder, we need to contact Mr. Gilmore in Texas for permission. I will attempt it, but just in case, I would like to know if someone else could make the attempt as well. These were published newsletters and we can't just transcribe them to be put up on the web without proper permission. Please email me if you are willing to help contract Mr. Gilmore. If we do gain permission, I don't mind volunteering to do a newsletter transcription, but someone else will have to be in charge of putting them up on the web. I think you might find it difficult to put the Newletter on the internet. A lot of what is in the book is family charts - not text.

I think we're getting somewhere. As I suggested earlier, some years ago I entered the "boilerplate" info for all newsletters through the 3rd quarter issue of 1988 (I believe there are about 3200 records which can easily be viewed with a "spreadsheet" program or database program, and thereby easily sorted by spouses first name, lastname, or any other way you'd like. I adapted a still from a book on Mayflower Immigrants which I thought was extremely useful. The zipped file is about 150k). I'm anxious to learn more of the issues since 3Q88 that I don't have. /Gary Gilmore
