Thought I would share this with the list. Perhaps someone knows something about the Texas Ranger, Richard Addison Gillespie. Rick Gillespie ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thanks, Larry. I think you mentioned that you had additional info beyond Thomas L. and Catherine Beard. If it is easy to send I would like to see it. My big fear right now is that I am jumping to too many conclusions regarding Samuel Huston Gillespie. It is all just so close but I hope I am not building myself up for a big letdown. I'll poke around the library regarding Richard Addison Gillespie. I believe he was in Texas during the Texas Revolution and was an attorney in Bastrop and Austin, but he was best known for his life with the Texas Rangers. He was very close friends to another famous Indian Fighter and Texas Ranger Samuel Walker, who the Colt Walker pistols were named for. Richard Addison was heroically killed in the battle of Vera Cruz, Mexico. His body was transported to San Antonio and is buried in an old cemetary there. Sam Walker was so close to RA Gillespie that his wish was to be buried next to his best friend. They are in fact buried together. Recently, the Texas Historical Society wanted to exhume Walker's body and move it to the State Cemetary in Austin where so many of the famous Texans are buried. The newspaper stated that the family of Walker were very upset with the State Historical Commission because of Walker's wishes to remain with Gillespie forever and they did not want to violate that wish so they left him next to Gillespie. Right now I have no info at all that links RA with my family but we Texans are absolutley obssessed with Texas History and to have a relative that fought in the Texas Revolution or with the Texas Rangers is the closest thing to royalty we have here in Texas!!! :) I'm hungry for whatever you have as long as you don't mind me bugging you about it. Thanks again.
