Do all the Gillespies know that Gillespies were a sept of Clan MacPherson, who in itself was a sept of Clan Chattan ? For research, check out the Battle of North Inch. Gillespie family members are eligible to join both of those clans - you'll likely see their tents at any of the Scottish Games in the summer here in the U.S. Also Clan MacPherson has a museum in Scotland - am not sure about Clan Chattan, but wouldn't be surprised if they do, too.
