Thanks, Fred, for adding this piece to the quilt ! I believe we are distantly tied thru James Gillespie Blaine - his mother and my Dad's mother were sisters. Somewhere I have a book on Blaine and it speaks to this Galbraith and Derry connection. Mentions a Liberty Tree at Derry church and I always intended to go there and look for it, but since then I've found out that there were many Liberty Trees, since that is where they rallied and signed up for the Rev. War. There is ( or was ) a very good B&B/restaurant there and you could see the tree out their window - the owner has written well-known cookbooks, but her name esapes me at the moment. I believe the Blaine book is the one that mentions an Elizabeth who inherited a large estate in Edinborough - I always wondered about her - could be the same Eliz. that you mention. Sorry I don't have the time to pursue it now ( am drowning in paperwork ). My Dad was Robert Wray Gillespie, Sr. (born 1888 ) Greenville, Pa. and our line came from Donegal to Big Bend, Pa. in 1806. Their farm is now under water of Shenango Dam ( Mercer County ) between Sharon, Pa. and Greenville, Pa. Thomas's large tombstone, broken into 4 pieces, is in the Bigler Cemetary south of Greenville. It mentions that he was born in 1799 in Donegal, ( but they always considered themselves Scots, having been shifted to Ireland in one of England's brainy schemes to pacify that area ). Your info is valuable because it goes back farther than any firm info we have - thanks so much for bringing it to the website ! Will send you what we have once I get my papers in order. - our email address is cfiler@columbus.rr.com .
