I managed to find a birth certificate for William George Gillespie born 7th August 1898 in Woolwich. His parents were William Simpson Gillespie and Louisa Fulcher. Louisa Fulcher and William S. Gillespie (age 28) ied on June 28th 1897 in Plumstead Kent. They lived at 33 Hudson Rd. Louisa's father was Edward Fulcher a tailor and Williams was John Gillespie a furnaceman. William himself was an examiner at the arsenal. In 1901 Louisa died and the witnes to their marriage (George Croucher and his wife Hannah) raised young William George). In 1903 William Simpson remarried to Louisa Kavannagh. She was also a widow and it looks as if her maiden name was Archard or Orchard (also a tailor) they lived at 708 Woolwich Road. Woolwich. I know they had a couple of children. I managed to find William S on some census records which has allowed me to go back a bit. His father was John Gillepsie (1844 - 1899) from Lanark - he must have moved south for work. W.S. mother was Anne (possibly Reid though unconfirmed at this time). John's father and mother were Alexander (1818 - 1881) and Janet 1817 - 1872 neeWyper) Gillespie from Old Monkton Lanarkshire. Alexanders parents were Alexander (b. 1792) and Janet Brown (1785) also from Old Monkton Lanarkshire. I hope this helps a little. Dianne
