Surnames: gillespie, reid Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CiY.2ACEB/1304 Message Board Post: I am interested in hearing from anyone researching the following family: Hugh Gillespie was born 19 NOV 1774 in Lecropt, Perthshire as the youngest son of James Gillespie and Catherine Reid. Hugh worked as a cotton millwright, first in Bridge of Turk and later at the Deanston Works Company in Deanston, Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland. He married Mary Reid sometime around 1800, but no record of that marriage has yet been found. They began their family in Bridge of Turk. Children: James GILLESPIE b: ABT 1801 in Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland Catherine GILLESPIE b: ABT 1803 in Probably Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland. Catherine is suggested speculatively. It is not known if she actually existed. Based on Scots naming patterns, which this family appears to have followed, then they should have had a daughter named Catherine born about this time. There is certainly a gap in the birth pattern of this family without Catherine, suggesting they probably had a child about this time. However no evidence of Catherine's existence has so far been found. Margaret GILLESPIE b: ABT 1805 in Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland. John GILLESPIE b: 18 JUL 1807 in Bridge Of Turk, Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland. Jean GILLESPIE b: 18 JUL 1809 in Bridge Of Turk, Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland. Mary GILLESPIE b: 12 JUL 1811 in Deanston, Doune, Perthshire, Scotland. Thomas GILLESPIE b: 6 JUN 1813 in Deanston, Doune, Perthshire, Scotland. Helen GILLESPIE b: 3 NOV 1816 in Deanston, Doune, Perthshire, Scotland. Janet GILLESPIE b: 20 APR 1819 in Deanston, Doune, Perthshire, Scotland. It is suspected she died before 1834 as she has not been able to be accounted for in later records. Hugh Gillespie and Mary Reid along with most of their children immigrated from Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland to Puslinch Township, Wellington County, Ontario about 1834. If you are researching this family, I would be interested in hearing from you.
