Hi June: From the "Day Book of Daniel Campbell of Shawfield 1767" ISBN 0-08-040933-4 There was a Neil Gillaspie with wife Mary McIlpheder and sons Gilbert and Angus who sailed from Islay Scotland in June 1739 to the New York Colony (the Argyle Patent).. In a list probably prepared in 1763, it listed both Neil and Mary as living, with one daughter. There was no listing of the sons. In a photo book called "Old Islay" there is a photo of a Neil Gillespie who was a driver of a Royal Mail Ford van , carrying both mail and passengers. My guess, from the van, is that the photo was taken around 1920. You might want to look at the website for the Islay mailing list, there is a lot of information posted there. Good luck. Hi list I am new to this list. I have joined because I researching the surname CLASBY and I understand GILLESPIE of this name. Sarah Ellen KENNEY born in Sheffield, UK in 1869 married Edward CLASBY in 1889 (from marriage cert) one year after the birth of her daughter Sarah Ann KENNEY. However on Sarah Ellen's mothers' death certificate she is known as Sarah CALASBY. Family tell me she married three times, to CONNOR, GILLESPIE and then MOORE. It is known that Sarah Ellen had a son to GILLESPIE. Does this ring any bells with anyone. Any information greatly appreciated.
