Gillespie's mother was May Tiller daughter of Paul and Ellen Tiller. Paul did marry Florence C. Hamner and they had a daughter. I assume this was a first marriage. In the 1930s Dr. Green Berry Gillespie stated he didn't know where his son was. My records are a mess but will add more later.

Green Berry G. was a doctor, son of Green Berry Gillespie and Rebecca Poer. In early 1940s I visited with widow of Green Berry in Covington [she was last wife, not the mother of Paul. Some where in my records I have his mother, will start looking. You can contact me at TJack98100@aol.com-- or I will post some more on the Gillespies and Poers later.
I would be interested in hearing from anyone descended from Dio W. Gillespie/Gillispie who appeared in the 1930 Fulton County, Georgia census. He was born 1892 in Georgia, possibly Bartow County. His parents were William and Ella Gillespie. I am fairly certain William was the son of Solomon Newton and Mary Elizabeth Gillispie of Anderson/Pickens Counties in South Carolina. Dio also had a sister named Grace who married a Bradshaw. She also appears with Dio and his family in the 1930 census. I discovered that Dio died in the Atlanta area in 1969. Please help me fill in my Gillispie holes! Thanks, Ladonna Viertel

Their son, Solomon Newton Gillispie, was my gg grandfather, but they had another son, J. T., who lived next to his parents in 1870. J.T. had a son, W. E., born in 1865, who I feel sure has descendants in Oconee County. Ladonna Viertel

A million times thank you!! I have been through the census records but have a very hard time reading them. How on earth did you do that? I have been researching the stevers/stever/stebar line for about 4 years now and am in the process of writing a book and have been traveling all over the place interviewing the old folks for stories and photos. My hopes are to preserve tho old stories and photos to go along with the genealogy part of it. I am not researching the Gillespie line but my 80 year old aunt has been a tremendous help in getting stories and photos together and Dave and Mary are her granparents and she doesnt remember much about them and wanted to put a little report together for her with their info. You have been soo helpful . I cant thank you enough. Heather

Have you searched them yet? Once I read your reply, I realized that I had the right family. So I kept on searching. Briefly, here is what I found: 1900 - David and Marie with children Willie, Thomas, Marie, Gracey, Laura and Elizabeth. 1910 - David, widowed, children listed Helen, Gracey, Albert, Addie and Joe 1910 - Charley and Flora (surname was unreadable). Children are Frank, Oakey ?, Claudia ?, and Raleigh ?. Laura Gillespie is living with them, also. 1920 - David is living with his son, Tom (and family...Tom's wife, Nellie and their children Frank, Irene, Hazel. Also living with them are Tom's brother's Albert and Joe.) 1920 - Will and Helen Stevers with children David, Alphus ? and Lelia? The last two names are hard to read. 1920 - Daniel and Willie Hilton with children Tony ?, ??, Fannie, Mary, Reba ?, Williard, and Daniel 1930 - Daniel and Willie Hilton with Mary, Williard, Daniel Jr., Earnest. Also living with them is David Gillespie Let me know if you have this information or not. I hope this helps! Kelly

This is what i know maybe you can help me. I have a very old photo of these 2 people and have always been told that their names are Dave and Dolly Gillespie. Dolly's maiden name was either viars or via and she was a full blooded shawnee indian. The elders in the family think that she came from N.C. sometime and settled in the southwestern part of VA around Giles county. I just came across her daughters marriage certificate and it lists her as being Mary Gillespie and not Dolly so Dolly must have been a nickname or possibly a middle name. I dont have any dates on her but her daughter was born in 1893. if you think there is a possible like please email me. You are welcome to a copy of the picture. Heather

I found it at the Library of Congress and it was a wealth of information on the many families of Blount Co. It was such a great book, that I wanted a copy of it, but I was too late as it had sold out. So, to those who have Gillespy/Gillespie roots in Blount Co., I have 2 questions ... 1. Does anyone have a copy they would like to sell? 2. Would anyone be interested in seeing the book reprinted? If so, I contacted County Heritage and they said they need 75 people interested in order to reprint the book.
