    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Gillespie, Simmons Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CiY.2ACEB/1341 Message Board Post: Otis Thompson Gillespie died July 31, 2004 at his home on the Blue Sky Ranch in Penrose, CO. He was born Dec 25, 1907 in Albany, MO to James Albert and Minnie Esther (Simmons) Gillespie. He married May Carter on Sept 2, 1930 in Colorado Springs, CO. As a 5-year-old, he traveled with his parents from his birthplace in Gentry County, Mo., to a homestead on the prairie of Morgan County. The six-week trek from November into December of 1913 was made in a mule-drawn covered wagon, sometimes part of a wagon train, sometimes solitary travel. He made much of the trip riding the coupling pole of the wagon, scampering alongside his father. He attended the Antelope Springs one-room-school in Morgan County for six years. The family relocated to Old Colorado City in 1920 and then to Beaver Park in 1925 to run a hay farm and raise seed crops. Mr. Gillespie graduated from Penrose High School in 1926. Following high school, he, along with a life-long friend, the late Gerry Moore of Penrose, worked the wheat harvest in Kansas and toiled in the Texas oil fields. He then returned to Penrose and settled into his life-long avocation as a rancher/farmer. He began work at Ideal's cement plant in Portland in March 1937 and retired in December 1969. He was preceded in death by his wife; an infant son Kirk; his parents; 2 brothers Marion and Forrest and 1 sister Adeline Cunningham. He is survived by his daughter Patricia Anda; 2 granddaughters, 1 grandson, 3 ggranddaughters, 1 ggrandson; sister Martha Irvine. Cremation through Charles Anthony's Royal Gorge Crematory in Florence, CO. Partial scattering of remains at Blue Sky Ranch. Beaver Park Cemetery in Penrose, CO.

    1. James Gillespie, from Barrow-in-Furness, to Sarnia Ontario early 1900's.
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Gillespie Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/CiY.2ACEB/1332 Message Board Post: My Grandfather, William John Gillespie, known as "Jack" came to Canada with his brother Jim in the early 1900's. They had come from working in Barrow-in-Furness in north-west England; although Jack and his wife moved up to just outside Glasgow, in Cambus Nethan where most of the kids were born, and my father was born in about 1908. I suspect there was some to-ing and fro-ing for awhile, following jobs. When the two brothers came to Canada, Jack came to Vancouver BC, and Jim stayed in Sarnia or thereabouts, married and had several children. They also had a sister Mary who stayed back in Barrow-in-Furness. Jim (by himself) came to visit us all in roughly 1952 or 53, and I have a photo of him, Grampa Jack Gillespie, my dad, and my brother - the 4 Gillespie men. It would be lovely to know if Great-uncle Jim's kids and grandkids would make contact. I have no knowledge of the Gillespie side of my family at all, and am just beginning to search the Gillespie's. Hope to connect. - Celia (Gillespie) Lewis. calewis@telus.net
