    1. Jane Gillespie Tweedle
    2. virginia miller
    3. I am looking for information on my ggg grandmother, Jane Gillespie. According to local histories in Ontario where she died in June of 1872, she was born at "Mohoor", Stapleton about 1788. I wasn't able to find a place called Mohoor; perhaps it was a farm. She married Archibald Tweddle and they had 14 children who were christened in Bewcastle or Stapleton. Archibald was christened May 9, 1784 and buried at Stapleton Mar 18,1832. He was said to be a farmer at Dapplymoor. The next year, Jane emigrated to the Niagara area of Ontario with her children. The family was known in Ontario as "Tweedle". Jane had two brothers already in Canada; John and Barney Gillespie were farmers in Barton Township. I would be pleased to hear from anyone with knowledge of these families in either England or Canada or with advice to offer. Thanks, Virginia in Victoria, Canada

    1. Here's proof of which William is the son of James & Jennet Gillespy!
    2. For about 34 yrs. now, I have been looking for a William Gillespy who was married to a gal named Mary whom some have thought might be the daughter of Archibald Clendenning. This William Gillespy was thought to be the son of James and Jennet Gillespy who immigrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 24 July 1740 from Scotland/Ireland. Immigration records do indicate that indeed there was a James and Jennet Gillespy who did have a son named William Gillespy. I have thought for many years that the William Gillespy found in many of the Augusta County, Virginia records was my William Gillespy, son of James and Jennet. I recently found information about another William who had 3 wives (1st to Isabella Houston (Henderson), 2nd Rose (Finley) Henderson (widow of John Henderson) and 3rd Ann Houston). Most of the researchers who descend from this William who had the 3 wives seem to say that this is the William Gillespy who was the son of James & Jennet Gillespy. Well, I set out to find whatever documentation was out there to either prove or disprove this idea. And guess what? I found it! I located several documents for the William Gillespy who had the 3 wives and he is indeed the son of James and Jennet! My William Gillespy who was married to Mary is NOT the son of James and Jennet! In Augusta Co., VA in Deed Book No. 26 on page 33 dated 20 August 1787 there is an entry that say, "William Gillespie and Rose to George Adam Coynart (delivered to Gasper Coinert, 22 August 1789), tract conveyed to William by will of James Gillaspie." The Rose mentioned here proves that this is the William who had the 3 wives…Rose being William's 2nd wife. It also proves that this same William is the son of James Gillespy. I also found the marriage record for William Gallaspy when he married his 3rd wife Anne Houston. William and Anne were married 16 May 1794 in Rockbridge County, VA according to the "Early American Marriages in Virginia". Anne wrote her Will on 19 July 1830 and it was probated in September Court 1830 in Blount Co., TN in Will Book 1 Page 15. All of us need to be careful not to confuse these 2 William Gillespys - one is my William who married Mary and the other William is the one who married Isabella, Rose and Anne. My William went to Pendleton District, South Carolina where he and Mary both died and the other William (w/ the 3 wives) went to Blount County, Tennessee where he and his 3rd wife both died. This discovery will change many family trees out there! Gloria
