Hello. I am Debby McArtor. I am researching the Thomas Gillespie who married Eleanor ? lines. This is one solid brick wall. I descend through his son Thomas (m. Margaret Bowen), #2's son Henry (m Ruth Chaffin), Henry's son Robert L. (m Mary Helmandollar), Robert's son William Thomas (m 1. Maude Wright 2. Ida Pearl Neel/Neal), "Tom's" son Buford (m. Tina Louise Alley), Buford's son William Thomas (my dad, m. Esther Mae Cruey). I have copies of marriage certificates for everyone up through Robert L and a copy of the page recording the marriage of Henry and Ruth. Since Rootsweb does not allow attachments, I will have these posted to my web site (when I can get the time to do it!<g>) and I will let everyone know when that is done for those who are interested. I would like information on Henry Gillespie (m Ruth Chaffin), Robert L (m Mary Helmandollar) and Maude Wright, the first wife of William Thomas Gillespie. William and Maude were married in Tazewell Co., Va. in 1897. Ten years later he married Ida Pearl. Story has it Maude died in childbirth. Ida is listed as the mother to William's first two sons, Arthur and Buford but they were born prior to 1907( when Tom and Ida were married). Any help is appreciated. Sorry about the mini novel. <g> Debby
Hello everyone! There are a few of us here now. Maybe some more will subscribe after this list is advertised in Rootsweb Review next Wednesday. If you have any marriage records for Gillespie, wills, probates, etc, please post them to the list. And tell us about your families! I am descended from Thomas and Naomi (Thompson) Gillespie of Rowan County, North Carolina, through their son Isaac who married Mary Ann McGuire. Isaac's daughter Lydia Gillespie married James Durham in Sumner County Tennessee.. Their oldest daughter, Polly Ann, married James David Graves about 1838.. The Graves family is one of my dead ends in Sumner and ALlen Co Kentucky, along with Absher and Travelstead. But that is another story. Polly lost her husband at a fairly young age, and she was an invalid most of her life. She died at Texola, Oklahoma Territory in 1907, in what is now Beckham County. Her oldest son, James Carroll Graves, married Rebecca Elmine Travelstead in Saline County Illinois after the Civil War. Rebecca died in Beckham County OK in 1929 and James died in 1932. Their daughter Lydia Agnes Graves married Bob Bassett and they were my great grandparents. If anyone knows a valid e-mail address for the editor of the Gillespie Clan newsletter, Dennis Gillespie, I would like to invite him to join us. Every e-mail address I've tried for him has bounced. I am searching for information on my ancestor James GILLESPIE who was born in Northern Ireland ca 1714. He was an Early Pee Dee Settler and was there by 1742. He died before the revolutionary way. Am searching for the father and birthplace of Thomas GILLESPIE (b. 1719-d. 1796) Thomas GILLESPIE migrated into Augusta Co., VA and was there by 1740 when he was granted 400 acres on North Glade. A record was found where he was in the milita 1742. He married supposedly on 1 Jan 1745 a Naomi THOMPSON (b. 1728-d. 1796.) Her birthplace and parents are also unknown. They migrated into Rowan County, NC probably around 1749. It was suggested that both Thomas and Naomi originated in Cecil Co., MD, or Chester Co., PA, but no proof has ever been found. They died on the same day and are buried in the same casket in Thyatira Cemetery. They had 10 Children: James, Martha, Isaac, George, Lydia, Thomas, Alexander, Robert, David, and John. George moved to Sumner Co., TN; Isaac, Thomas, David moved to Williamson Co., TN.; James, Martha, Lydia, Alexander and Robert stayed in Rowan Co.; John went to Sumner Co., and then Alabama where he died. Have additional information on children and their spouses. Billie Curry Steeley, [email protected]
