My branch of Gillespies in Kentucky usually spelled it with an "a" and a "y"; as in Gillaspy. I've also seen it spelled that way in Virginia records. Anyone else have that spelling in their line, or is it just another example of phonetic spelling so common in our ancestors. Mary Miller

Were Jane and Mary "Polly," who married LaForce brothers, sisters? Both were in KY in the late 1700s. Who were the parents and siblings of these girls? Do we have any connections? :Hi, I'm still here...hoping someone else besides me has Gillespie's in Falkirk, Scotland from at least 1800-1905 and then they leave for Hamilton, Ontario 1905 where they still reside today. Here's my 1910 picture of my Gillespie family at my site, please visit it. Gayle (Gillespie) Fuson [email protected] http://www.olypen.com/gayle
Looking for information on Judith ASKEW (1812-1890) and Henry GILLESPIE (?) who married 24 Jan 1831 in Burke Co., NC. Their four children were James Henry (1840), Clarissa (1843), Rachel Elizabeth (1844), William (1846), Jesse R. (1850) and Thomas P. (1855). Judith and her children were living in Buncombe Co. in 1850 and were in Madison Co. by 1860. I have never seen Henry Gillespie's name on the census records. Her father's will indicated something had happened to Henry by 1852. She died in Madison Co. in 1890. Hoping to hear from descendants of this family. Patricia Morrow
Hi, Appears we are still on the List. Good! Before I comment on the possibility of a family connection, I need to borrow my sister's Bond Co. IL cemetery books which are full of information. Until then, you might enjoy reading the Bond Co. IL USGenWeb site. It has exerts of the 1882 History which is one of a series of books that cover IL counties. Keep in mind that many of the File, Willeford and Gillespie families are related through marriage (after coming to IL). They came to IL at about the same time. Josiah married Margaret Jane File. I failed to mention that in my query. Loleta Brown [email protected] RUTH LAWRENCE wrote: > Noble Brown wrote: > > > > I'm checking to see if I'm still on this list. My g g grandfather was Josiah R. Gillespie, b.9 Feb. 1825 in Bond Co. IL to parents; Josiah R. Gillespie/Hannah Williams. He died 22 Jan 1857 in Nashville, TN as a result of the civil War. The family has connections to the File and Willeford families who also immigrated to Bond Co. as very early settlers. I would appreciate any information. Loleta Brown [email protected]
Hey, you noticed too. I am looking for Mary "Polly" Gillespie, wife of Randolph LaForce. They were on Fayette Co. KY tax rolls, 1787, 1791 and 1792; 1793 until 1797 in Clark Co. and Scott Co. tax rolls from 1799 until 1816. Children George, Gillespie, Judith, Samuel. George and Gillespie LaForce moved on to IL. Are they found with other Gillespie families?
I'm checking to see if I'm still on this list. I haven't gotten any mail for several days. Loleta Brown [email protected]

I am hoping to make a connection with a descendant of one of these three brothers. All were born in New York. Archibald was an officer in the Marine Corps and fought in the Mexican War. He died in San Francisco, California in 1873. His brother Charles came to California after the Mexican War and was president of the San Francisco Committee of Vigilence during the 1850's. He was a real estate broker. David also came to California after the Mexican War from New York. I don't know what he did. Any help in making a contact will be appreciated. David
