Thanks for your replay, Jean. My grandfather, Lantie Miller Gillespie, was born somewhere in Illinois on 2-19-1882. He and his brother, John, left home when they were early teens and went to Texas. His father was Sam Gillespie, Jr., born in 9-2-1845 somewhere in Tennessee. Beyond that we only know of this father, Sam Sr. who married Naomia Johnson in 1839 and died an unknown date in Illinois (presumably near Peoria). I know it's sketchy but it's all I've got. Let me know if you have info. Thanks. Rick, It seems like some of these lines didn't want to become public. I'll keep a look out for those names. HI, Searching for Family of MARY S. GILLESPIE b-? KY. Married, probably between 1835-1840, to---- MILES WATSON b-? KY. After Miles Watson died in KY, Mary and her Children all moved to Lawrence Co. AR. abt. 1853 at which time Mary remarried to William HAWKINS. Mary died abt. 1862 in Baxter Co. AR. Any information appreciated! Thank you! Sincerely, Charlotte Slemp
I recall my dad telling me many years ago that our branch of the Gillespies derives from 4 brothers who came to America by way of Ireland sometime in the 1600's or 1700's. Does that ring a bell with anyone? Where they went once they got here is a mystery, except that by 1822 when my great-grandfather Samuel Wilson Gillespie was born, his family was living in Ross County, Ohio. Carol Gillespie Ready
HI, Would anyone have come across a Gillespie that would have been in Australia prior to 1809, I have a gg grandfather who was born in Sydney Australia in 1809 I have found no record of his parents and no birth registration for him on info on death certificate. Maybe someone has a family member who came to Australia in those early day"s possibly convict. Please can someone help an Assie even clues where to look. Joy Wintle
I am trying to find information regarding the father of my great-grandfather, Samuel Wilson GILLESPIE. According to family records, Samuel was born in Ross County, OH on March 11, 1822 and died in Crawford County, KS, in 1881. His mother is presumed to be Rachel Lake and his father Joseph GILLESPIE, probably born in Virginia (now WV) in the 1780's or 1790's. Marriage records on the Ross County, OH, website indicate a marriage between Joseph GILLESPIE and Rachel Lake on December 28, 1813. Although I have quite a bit of information regarding Rachel, I have been unable to find anything about her husband except that he was presumably Joseph (or John) GILLESPIE (or GILLISPIE). It appears that the family eventually moved to Hancock County where another child, Mariah L. Gillespie, was born in 1833. I would appreciate your assistance. Thanks, Carol Gillespie Ready
Looking for info about John and Margaret Gillespy, born in Ireland and lived in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania in the early 1800s. They had a daughter named Hannah Gillespie, born in 1827 or 1828, baptized in St Paul Cathedral in Pittsburgh. Hannah married Peter McMahon in 1845 and they lived in Mercer County, PA until they moved to Butler County, Iowa in 1855. Joe Kenney, Palmer, Alaska

Fred What's with the Gillespie lineage?! They all seem to be so mysterious! My grandfather Lantie Miller Gillespie was born in Peoria, Ill and ended up in Texas. His father was Samuel House (or Niuse--hard to read the scanty writings we have) Gillespie, Jr. and his dad was of Sam, Sr. born somewhere back east in Tenn or Alabama in the early 1800s. If you run across these names in your searches please let me know. I am trying to find information on Richard Gillespie/Gillaspie who was born about 1780 possibly in PA and married Sarah Nutter March 20, 1801 in Harrison County, WV. His second wife was Mary Elizabeth ??? I knkow that Richard moved from WV to Michigan where a daughter Phebe was born in 1835. Then onto Brown Co., OH where a son Marcus was born. Moved to Schuyler County, MO where Richard died in 1848 and Mary Elizabeth died in 1851. I am searching for the parents of Richard and the possible last name of Mary Elizabeth and any other information someone may have. Thank you in advance for any help. Sandy
