    3. Do you have any additional information on Matthew's sister Mary? Was she the one who married Randolph LaForce? Pat Mary, the daughter of John Gillespie and Jane Harvey Gillespie was b. 7 Feb 1783 according to the Ancestral File I copied. No other info is included. The Gillespie family sketch doesn't give any info on her either. Mary

    3. Randy, et al- I happen to have some info on the Gillespies you have written about. This can serve as CLUES for you. I received much of this long ago and there is little "documentation". Unfortunately, I have been unable to connect "my" Gillespie line (to anyone...) An acquaintance of mine is descended from this line and we exchanged info. According to "Ancestral File" (contributed data) the parents of Mathew Gillespie, b. 23 Jul 1788 - d. 16 May 1871, were John Gillespie and Jane Harvey Gillespie. He was born in Greenville Co. SC and died S. Mills River, Henderson Co. NC. That same file lists Botetourt Co. VA as the POB of both parents. They married 13 Aug 1779 at Botetourt Co. VA. Jane d. 26 Apr 1808 and John d. 7 Apr 1822. They are both buried East Fork Private Cemetery, East Fork Community, Transylvania Co. NC. Mathew's siblings were: Rebecca, Mary, William, (Mathew here), Robert Harvey and Isabell. The record includes the name/s Simon or William for John's father and William Harvey as Jane's. I downloaded this record in 1992. The submitter's name and address will be in the data base. I have a copy of a newpaper article from the Times-News, Hendersonville, NC, March 24, 1979. The article is titled The Gun That Won Western North Carolina, Guns and Gillespies, Settler and Sittons. It relates family connections and their rifle making. My friend shared with me, an eight page sketch of the family and three photo copied pages of a family bible record and front (and back?) of an additional sheet of paper. The names are the children of John and Jane and the family of Robert H. Gillespie and Sarah Aiken Gillespie. I expect that you already have much of this info, however, if you have questions I'll try to answer. Mary Peterson

    1. [GILLESPIE] Thomas Gillespie, d ca 1827 Butler Co., OH
    2. Joye or Debbie Ayers
    3. Hello list: I'm another new one and think the list is great. I am searching for a family for a Thomas Gillespie whose will names George, Margaret who m Mathew Thompson; Isabella who m Joseph Wharton; Jane who m James Wharton and my line Ann who was born July 1772, died June 1839 Butler Co., OH and married a Joseph Cox who lived in same county/ It is said Joseph Cox was an early surveyor for the Judge Symmes land purchase in very early OH. The land was advertised very strongly in NJ so a lot of the early settlers were known to be originally from NJ. Any help or suggestions would be sincerely appreciated. Other names in this line are Ayers, Williams, Hatfield and many many others of very early southwest OH. Hamilton Co., etc. Thanks, JB

    2. Hello descendants of George Gillespie!! I'm amazed that there are now 2 family threads running, neither of which match my 4th g-grandfather, George Gillespie, b. 3/5/1740 in Antrim Co., N. Ireland! My George came to this country, going first to an uncle in Lancaster Co., PA, but soon moving on to Washington Co., PA. There he married Jane Allen, b. 6/15/1739 in Scotland. My George and Jane had 10 children in Washington Co., PA, before moving on to Warren Co., OH. They both lived the rest of their lives in Warren Co., Jane dying 9/7/1814, and George 10/11/1822. Anyone else? Patty
