Greetings Andy; I am a descendant of a Wyatt Simson GIFFORD. He was born either in 1859 or 1860 somewhere in KY. He died 13 Aug 1928 in Soldier, KY. He has been a big dead end for me but for some reason I just know that there is more on this fellow. Here is a bit of what I know: Descendants of Wyatt Simson Gifford Generation One 1. Wyatt Simson1 GIFFORD was born on 7 July 1859 (Alice Margaret Gifford Perander Correspondence, n.d, Timothy David COOK, Busby, Montana.); he was born in May 1860 at Kentucky (1900 United States Federal Census, Morehead, Rowan Co, Kentucky; dwelling 347, family 347.); he and Hell?n CARREL obtained a marriage license on 13 April 1887 at Morehead, Rowan Co, Kentucky, Name on marriage bond is W.S. Gifford. Bondsman on the certificate is A.H. Gifford (possibly the father of W.S. Gifford?) (Rowan County Court Clerk marriage records, Morehead, Kentucky, n.d., Book 1, page 126, Timothy David COOK, Busby, Montana.); he married Samantha Florence SALYERS, daughter of James H. SALYER and Margaret DEAN, on 6 October 1889 (Gifford, A. M., Correspondence.); he died on 13 August 1928 at Soldier, Carter Co, Kentucky, at age 69 The death certificate is a delayed certificate filed six months after the death. There is no information on the record other than the date and place of death (Kentucky Bureau of Vital Statistics Death Certificate, n.d,). He was a farmer. He and Samantha Florence SALYERS appeared on the census of 22 June 1900 at Morehead, Rowan Co, Kentucky (1900 U.S. Census, Morehead, Rowan Co, Kentucky; dwelling 347, family 347.). Hell?n Carrel died circa 1888 (estimate of date.). The only known child of Wyatt Simson1 GIFFORD and Hell?n CARREL was: i. Pearl Ethel2 GIFFORD was born in May 1888 at Kentucky (1900 U.S. Census, Morehead, Rowan Co, Kentucky; dwelling 347, family 347.); she was born on 14 June 1888 (Gifford, A. M., Correspondence.). Samantha Florence Salyers was also known as Symantha. She was born on 12 April 1872 at Scott Co, Kentucky (ibid, for date.) (Kentucky Bureau of Vital Statistics, ,for place of birth, death certificate of Mrs. Florence Gifford.). She was born in April 1874 at Kentucky (1900 U.S. Census, Morehead, Rowan Co, Kentucky; dwelling 347, family 347.). She died on 17 May 1924 at Louisville, Jefferson Co, Kentucky, at age 52 (Kentucky Bureau of Vital Statistics, death certificate of Mrs. Florence Gifford.). She was buried on 18 May 1924 at Enterprise, Carter Co, Kentucky (Kentucky Bureau of Vital Statistics.). The seven known children of Wyatt Simson1 GIFFORD and Samantha Florence SALYERS were as follows: i. Prichard Wilson2 GIFFORD was born on 18 July 1890 (Gifford, A. M., Correspondence.); he died on 4 April 1891(ibid.). ii. Mamie Violet GIFFORD was born on 7 March 1893 (ibid.). 2. iii. Howard Earl GIFFORD, born 28 August 1895; married Bertha (--?--). 3. iv. Carl Crosley GIFFORD, born 24 August 1898 at Morehead, Rowan Co, Kentucky; married Sadie Ruth THORNBURG. (My g-grandfather.) v. Fredric Alenmore GIFFORD was born on 16 March 1901 (ibid.); he died on 21 August 1902 at age 1 (ibid.). vi. Lester Clyde GIFFORD was born on 21 July 1903 (ibid.); he died on 14 July 1904 (ibid.). vii. Alene Jewell GIFFORD was born on 24 November 1906; she died on 5 November 1909 at age 2 (ibid.).
