Hi all, I have been trying for some time to verify that the father of William Gifford, soldier of Revolutionary War, was born to a Captain Gideon Gifford. At this point I wonder if the source is incorrect and hope that someone can prove or disprove the linkage. Here is what I have We have established that Willam fought in the Revolutionary and later migrated to Greenfield Twp., Erie Co., Pa. We do not know any of his siblings and the only purported data regarding his parents is given in a set of notes of unknown authorship that are in possession of the descendants of William Gifford that live in Erie Co., Pa.: "Captain Gideon Gifford is the earliest ancestral father of whom we have a definite record. He married Miss _____ at Pawlett, Vermont and there were born to them sons and daughters. He removed with his family from Pawlett, Vermont to Pittstown, Renselaer Co., New York." His son William Gifford served as a private in the American Revolutionary War; William is the only child of Captain Gideon Gifford of which we have a record. William married Miss Elizabeth ______, and they there were born to them eleven children and they are the branch of Captain Gideon Gifford's descendants which are the subject of this compilation." So far all our efforts to find a trace of Capt. Gideon Gifford have failed. I can find Gideon Giffords in Pawlett, Vt., but not of the right age. At this point I am wondering if William's father was someone else? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
