>From Wm. Gifford of Sandwich, MA Apr. 1976 issue NEHGR p137 Gideon Gifford ( Gideon3, William 2-1) was born 28 Nov 1719 and he died in Dutchess Co., NY after 6 Apr 1789 He married in Plymouth, 14Mar 1742/3 Lois Jackson, probably the daughter of Joseph and Remembrance (Jackson)Jackson. It is possible that if she survived her husband she is the Lois Gifford who married, 17 Sept 1758, Paul Lewis (Sandwich Town Records) By a deed of 5 July 1752, Gideon Gifford, yeoman, John Wing, yeoman, and Hannah, his wife, "all of Batemans Precinct in Dutchess Co., in the Province of NY, which Hannah is one of the heirs of Gideon Gifford, late of Rochester in the County of Plymouth . . . for six Spanish milled dollars, paid by Benjamin Wing of said Rochester, yeoman conveyed "a certain tract of land in sd Rochester, two twelfth parts of a ninety six acre grant of two twelfths part of the 48 acre grant, all of Joseph Doty's share at first, to be taken out of the undivided lands in sd Rochester." This deed was acknowledged in Dutchess Co., 9 May 1753, but not recorded until 19 May 1796! This date of recording may well be the clue to the year of Gidons's death (PLCD, 79:184). Plymouth deeds should be rechecked for more relevant data may be found there. Also a thorough search of Dutchess County deeds and probates is needed. The birth of only one child of this Gideon Gifford is recorded at Rochester. We have been told that he moved first to CT and later to Beekman's Precinct, Dutchess Co., and that he had at lease two unrecorded children. It seems likely that he had more children after leaving Rochester. Children: #110 Joseph, b 17 Mar. 1743/4, "son of Gideon Gifford, Junr. and Loes" (Rochester Vital Records) Mary, mar. Timothy Fuller John #110 Joseph Gifford There is too much to type about Joseph.
